E-Bike & E-Scooter Safety-

Don’t let one bad decision go viral. As we begin National Bike Safety Month, our City of Clovis Youth Commission would like to remind you of just some of the safety laws for E-Bikes and E-Scooters.

Safety Tips:
-Ride with the flow of traffic, in the same direction as cars.
-Helmets are required for all riders under 18 years old.
-At intersections, always look both ways and obey traffic signals and stop signs.
-While riding an E-Scooter on roads over 25 MPH, you must ride in the bike lane or right shoulder. You may not ride on the sidewalk.
-At night, always use a front and rear light, and wear bright-colored clothing.
-E-Scooter riders must have a valid learners permit or drivers license.
-Use hand signals and make sure drivers see you.

Remember, every safe ride is a win.

Clovis Police and ABC Agents Arrest 27 Suspects for Alcohol-Related Violations During Clovis Rodeo

Clovis Police officers and agents from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) arrested 27 suspects during the 5-day Clovis Rodeo for alcohol-related violations.

Clovis Police and ABC were on hand each day of the rodeo to enforce alcohol-related violations. This enforcement included a Trap Door operation in which law enforcement officers work with bars and clubs to detect the use of false IDs by minors. Under the program, those that verify ID’s will alert officers who then contact the individuals presenting the false ID. Five of the 27 arrests were for fake ID’s, and the other violations consisted of public intoxication, minors in possession of alcohol, furnishing alcohol to a minor and one arrest for DUI.

“We are thankful for the partnership we have with both the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and the Clovis Rodeo Association to keep this a fun and safe annual family-friendly event,” said Corporal Russ Moring.

Participating officers are trained in false ID recognition techniques and make arrests of minors who present false IDs. The penalty for possession or use of a false ID is a $250 fine, 32 hours of community service, and a one-year suspension of their driver license.

“With help from local law enforcement and participating businesses we can reduce underage drinking and the risks associated with it to keep communities safe,” said ABC Director Paul Tupy.

Statistics have shown that young people under the age of 21 have a much higher risk of being involved in a crash than older drivers. About 25 percent of fatal crashes involve underage drinking according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the ABC Alcohol Policing Partnership (APP) program.

Proactive Patrol Catches Mail Theft in Progress

Early yesterday morning as our community slept, a Clovis Police officer on patrol in a neighborhood near Gettysburg and Temperance caught two mail thieves in the act. Just after 3:20 A.M. on Sunday morning, April 26, 2026, an officer located a car parked next to a community box, with suspects stealing mail. The suspects tried to drive away but were arrested without incident in the same neighborhood.

Officers arrested 29-year-old Ger Xiong and 47-year-old Karen Palmaderios, both of Fresno, for multiple charges including mail theft, evading officers, conspiracy, and possession of burglary tools. Both suspects have been booked into Fresno County Jail, their car was towed, and officers recovered several pieces of stolen mail. Xiong also has prior charges for mail theft, and Palmaderios was also arrested on two uninvolved warrants.

Detectives are following up on this case, and we thank our Clovis Police officers and dispatchers for their diligent work. To report a crime in progress or suspicious activity, call 911. If you have been the victim of a crime in Clovis, you can call our non-emergency phone number to report it at (559) 324-2800.
