This email addresses New Mexico's monuments but this applies to ALL MONUMENTS across the country. Comment about the Monument in YOUR state. The Federal Government should not be the 'owner' of state lands. Take back YOUR state's monuments! EVERYTHING is handled better at a state or local level. Comments due on MONDAY 7/10/17.
The Notice on comments says they must be in buy July 10… that could mean July 9. Please comments NOW!!!
Most of you are aware that President Trump issued an Executive Order on April 26, 2017 directing Department of Interior Ryan Zenke to review all national monuments designated under the Antiquities Act of 1906 since January 1, 1996 that cover more than 100,000 acres. The review must be completed with a report to the President by August 24, 2017, which is 120 days from the date of the order.
Two of the national monuments to be reviewed are in our state, the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument located in Dona Ana and Luna Counties, and the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument located in Taos and Rio Arriba Counties.
The President believes that some or all the national monuments selected for review do not fall within the limits of power delegated by Congress to the President by the Antiquities Act. I share that belief and suspect that you do too.
Although not required by the Executive Order, Secretary Zenke has asked for public input not later than July 10, 2017, as a part of the review process.
The environmentalists who view the public lands as “their lands” are actively submitting letters and emails asking, and in many instances, demanding a recommendation to neither revoke or reduce the exiting size of national monuments under review. They, along with the liberal element in Congress, have gone so far as to allege the process of review to be unconstitutional.
It is critical that we show our support for the review process with letters and emails stating the reasons why. You can do that by sending letters (including hand written) by regular mail to:
