Silence is often misunderstood.

It's not weakness.
It's not consent.
It's not "moving on."

For many survivors, silence is a response to not being believed, being blamed, or being dismissed when they tried to speak.

If we want survivors to speak, we have to change how they are treated when they do.

The First Time It Happens… You Don’t Call It Abuse.

Trigger Warning

She was 15 when it started.

Not with violence.
Not with fear.

With attention.

With someone older choosing her, texting constantly, wanting to know where she was, who she was with, what she was doing.

At the time, it didn’t feel wrong.
It felt intense. It felt important. It felt like love.

That’s the part people miss.

Because when control shows up early—wrapped in attention and closeness—it doesn’t register as a red flag. It becomes the blueprint.

And that blueprint doesn’t stay in one relationship.

It follows you.

It teaches you to explain things away.
To stay when you’re uncomfortable.
To believe that anxiety, jealousy, and walking on eggshells are just part of loving someone.

Years later, many people don’t look back and say,
👉 “That’s where it started.”

Because no one ever told them what they were actually experiencing.

This isn’t just a story about being 15.

It’s about how easily unhealthy love gets normalized—and how long it can take to unlearn it.

Domestic Violence doesn't always scream. Sometimes it hides in silence, in lowered eyes, in the fear of speaking up or leaving.
