Clute Library

Clute Library A Branch of the Brazoria County Library System. Go to our web page to search and request items. The Clute Library’s first building was founded in October 1967.

This library was funded and built without the use of tax money, instead it was funded by donations and fundraising from the community at large. A few years later, in 1978, the Clute Library underwent its first renovation to make the building bigger, since the collection and community had grown beyond the current building’s capacity. This addition made the building twice its original size. In 1997,

the Clute Library was overcrowded once more. Again, the community rallied, and with the help of citizens, local businesses, organizations and grant money, the Clute Library opened a brand new facility three times the size of the previous two buildings in 2000. Since 2000, the Clute Library has seen its share of changes and additions. Starting in 2018, Virginia Koenig, the previous branch manager at Clute, began working tirelessly to update the current building. The community has grown and changed over the years, and public libraries should be able to grow and change along with it. Along with updating the interior space of the Clute Library, again with the help of grants, the library has been home to the Family Place Library which helps “to increase the capacity of libraries throughout the nation to recognize and realize their full potential as community hubs for healthy child and family development, parent and community involvement and lifelong learning beginning at birth.”

The Clute Library offers two Story times a week, and will soon be adding a third! Our pre-school story time takes place every Tuesday, and Movers and Shakers every Friday and Saturday. Along with a monthly book club for adults, as well as a wide array of programs, crafts and performers throughout the summer months.
