A special thank-you to our partners at Citizens EMS of Callahan County for their dedication, skill, and teamwork that keep our community safe every day. We honor all EMS personnel across Texas and nationwide for their courage, compassion, and commitment. Please join us in thanking an EMT or paramedic you know — share a story, tag a hero, or simply say “thank you.”

Our Hearts Go out to our friends at Taylor Electric.

Taylor Electric Cooperative is deeply saddened by the news of the tragic passing of one of our own, Brett Underwood, and his friend Abilene Firefighter Hunter Patterson, following an off-duty vehicle accident.

Brett was a longtime employee of Taylor Electric, a Journeyman Lineman and most recently worked with our substation engineering team. He was beloved by his co-workers, many of whom had become his close friends during his time at Taylor. We are devastated by this tragedy, and our condolences are with the families of both men tragically lost in this accident.

Brett was, first and foremost, a loving father and husband, but also a valued member of our organization. His loss will be felt deeply across our co-op and our community. Please continue to pray for the families and friends of both men as they navigate this loss.

Our hearts go out to our Brothers/Sisters at Abilene Fire Department.

With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the death of Abilene Firefighter - Hunter Patterson. FF Patterson and his friend Brett Underwood, were involved in an off-duty, fatal vehicle accident early this morning, Friday, May 15, 2026. Both men passed away.

This is a devastating loss for Hunter’s family and our department. Hunter was a respected and beloved member of the AFD for 11 years. Hunter leaves behind his wife and children, as well as numerous other family members and friends. The loss of both men has greatly impacted members of our department. We ask that our wonderful community keep both families in their thoughts and prayers, while also respecting their privacy at this difficult time.
