Santa is coming!

Santa will be on the big blue fire engines this Saturday, starting at 8:00AM. The “South Crew” will be starting on Timacula Road and heading east to cover East Fallowfield and Valley Township south of the railroad tracks, and the “North Crew” will be starting in Hillview and going west throughout Valley Township north of the railroad tracks.

We are going old school and will not be using any fancy trackers, listen for the sirens and come see Santa!

Disclaimer- We are liable to not hit every street in our local or our volunteers may never get to rest. Be sure if you live on a tight or dead end street to come to the main road. Our trucks are big and will not fit everywhere, well at least they won’t for non-emergency situations!

Enjoy your holiday season and think fire safety, only working smoke detectors will save lives!

How time flies…

Today marks the one-year anniversary of our Advanced Life Support (ALS) expansion following the closure of Medic 93 at Brandywine Hospital.

Over the course of the past 365 days, our Fire and EMS units have been dispatched to over 6,950 incidents. These are often serious incidents when the community needs our help the most.

Westwood EMS now provides primary ALS service to 16 municipalities in Western Chester County and Eastern Lancaster County. Through the support of the elected officials in each of these municipalities, we are able to maintain services 24/7 to respond to critical life-threatening emergencies; despite the fact that we no longer have a local hospital in the area.

While none of this would ever be possible without the generosity of our residents who continue to donate to us, or the municipal support we receive, the real heroes are our staff members and volunteers who endure very challenging incidents each and every day.

It’s pretty easy to do the math: We respond to nearly 20 emergencies per DAY. That’s one person who needs our help every 72 minutes. Trust us, it isn’t easy.

We want to thank our elected officials who continue to understand the constraints we face, and the residents who are conscious of our existence and our financial needs. We also couldn’t do what we do without the cooperation of our neighbors at the Sadsburyville Fire Company No. 1 and the Wagontown Fire Company who graciously house us in their fire stations to ensure we can keep our response times to a minimum throughout our service area.

Without everyone working together, we would not be able to provide these services in our Region. The day you need us is not the day to think about how important our highly-trained personnel are.

On to the next call!
