Larry Liss is an Army Veteran who was awarded the Silver Star, served as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and survived three helicopter crashes in 24 hours, but is best known for his actions at Cau Song Be. Larry sat down to share his military service memory from that day.
Today we celebrate WWII Veteran Elaine Weiss, who turned 103, and wish her continued good health.
Elaine attended Women’s Army Air Corps (WAAC) basic training in 1943 and was transferred to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she performed administrative duties for the Headquarters Commander for 2nd Army Air Force. She was later assigned to Pratt Army Airfield, Kansas. One of her most memorable experiences was hitching a ride on a B-26 Bomber Marauder from Colorado to Kansas.
Thank you for your service, Elaine!
Juneteenth - Freedom Day
On the 19th of June, 1865, in Galveston, Texas, Army Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger read aloud “General Order #3″ bringing the message of the Emancipation Proclamation to Texas. Black soldiers of the 25th Army Corps also carried the message of freedom.
On Juneteenth, we honor the courage and sacrifice of African Americans who fought for freedom and equality. Their bravery helped shape our nation and paved the way for future generations.
Sam Graveno - Celebrating 100 Years
Celebrating 100 years! We celebrate WWII Veteran Samuel Graveno, who turned 100 this past year, and wish him continued good health.
Sam is one of this nation’s “#greatestgeneration” and served as a Navy Gunner on the USS Sheridan through seven invasions including Tarawa, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. These days Sam stays active by working in his garden. We remain grateful to Sam for defending democracy and shaping the world we live in today.
