Town of Coats Welcomes New Finance Director

The Town of Coats is pleased to announce the appointment of Courtney Knight as the Town’s new full-time Finance Director.

In this role, Ms. Knight will be responsible for overseeing the Town’s financial operations, supporting sound fiscal management, and ensuring the continued integrity and accountability of the Town’s financial processes.

The Town of Coats looks forward to the experience, knowledge, and leadership Ms. Knight will bring to the organization. Her appointment represents an important addition to the Town’s administrative team as we continue working to provide responsible stewardship of public resources and quality services to our community.

The Town Manager serves as the Town’s chief administrative officer and is responsible for the effective day-to-day administration of municipal operations, implementation of Board policies, personnel management, budgeting and financial oversight, and coordination of Town services.
The position also places a strong emphasis on planning, development, zoning, and code enforcement, making this an excellent opportunity for a leader with experience in municipal administration and community development.
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a leader with:
✔️ Progressive experience in local government or municipal administration
✔️ Strong leadership and supervisory experience
✔️ Knowledge of municipal budgeting, finance, and operations
✔️ Experience with planning, zoning, development, and/or code enforcement
✔️ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
✔️ The ability to work collaboratively with elected officials, employees, residents, and community stakeholders
✔️ Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
✔️ A commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellent public service
💰 Salary: $85,000–$100,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

🚨 MAJOR WATER LEAK NOTICE 🚨

The Town is currently responding to a major water leak on Highway 27 near Abattoir Road.

This leak will impact water service in the surrounding area, including E. Stewart St., McLean St., Blue Agave, North Orange St., and other nearby locations.

Public Works is working to address the issue as quickly as possible. Please stay tuned to the Town’s page for updates on repair progress and water service restoration.

👷‍♂️ Working Behind the Scenes!

You may not always see our Public Works crew, but they’re always up to something and getting things done around town!

Today, they’ve been hard at work repairing a water leak, but that’s just one of the many hats they wear. From helping at the park with projects like installing culverts and new backstop netting, to mowing around town, building repairs, water and utility maintenance, and plenty more they help keep Coats running every day.

A lot of their work happens behind the scenes, so we wanted to give you a peek at some of the projects they’ve been tackling lately. Thank you to our Public Works crew for all the hard work you put into our town! 👏

Update: Water has been restored as of 4:45 p.m. Please be advised the road is still currently closed. If you are still experiencing low water pressure or air in lines please run outside spigots for several minutes.

🚨 WATER SERVICE DISRUPTION 🚨

The Town of Coats is currently responding to a water leak on South Lincoln Street.

Residents in the surrounding area may experience a temporary disruption in water service while repairs are being made.

Notice of Special Called Meeting

The Town of Coats Board of Commissioners will hold a Special Called Meeting on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Coats Town Hall Meeting Room, located at 25 East Main Street, Coats, North Carolina 27521.

The purpose of the Special Called Meeting includes consideration of Town business matters and a closed session pursuant to N.C. General Statute § 143-318.11(a)(3), concerning attorney-client privilege, and N.C. General Statute § 143-318.11(a)(6), concerning personnel matters.

The Board of Commissioners may take any action deemed appropriate following its consideration of these matters.

This notice is issued pursuant to applicable North Carolina law.

Harnett County Regional Water has scheduled a water utility outage beginning tonight, August 19 at 9:00 p.m. through August 20 at 7:00 a.m.

Residents may experience a disruption in water service during this time.

This outage is being conducted by Harnett County Regional Water. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the outage, please contact Harnett County Regional Water directly for additional information.
