⚡ Know Your EV Before an Emergency

Electric vehicles are becoming more common on our roads, and with that comes the need for drivers and vehicle owners to understand how their vehicles differ from traditional gasoline-powered cars.

In an emergency, information is one of the most valuable tools a first responder can have. Knowing your vehicle’s make and model, understanding its basic systems, and being familiar with the information provided by the manufacturer can help emergency crews quickly identify potential hazards.

EV owners are encouraged to take a few minutes before an emergency happens to learn about their vehicle and its emergency features. Keep your vehicle’s emergency information accessible and make sure anyone who regularly drives the vehicle knows it is electric.

For our fire and EMS crews, every second matters. The more information available about a vehicle involved in an incident, the better prepared responders can be to safely manage the scene.

Take a few minutes today to learn about your EV. It could make a difference when seconds count.

CIVFD 80th Anniversary Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet

On August 15th our department held its 80th Anniversary Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet. This evening was to recognize and award our members hard-work over the past year.

This year's banquet was dedicated to two very special members Ronnie Evans and Eddie Payne Jr. These two individuals have devoted many years to our department and community giving 110% to be a true VOLUNTEER. They have both help mentor the new and young members showing them the true history of the Fire and EMS service. We are so greatly appreciative of all of their hard work and dedication to our department.

We recognized many members for their accomplishments as well as the time they give to our department and our community.

We want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to this year's Banquet Committee for all the hard-work you put into this fantastic wonderful evening.

We would also like to say THANK YOU to our Auxiliary for the outstanding support this year and for the wonderful gift of $13,500 to put towards new equipment for our new Fire/Rescue Boat.

This year's theme was "CASINO NIGHT".

CIVFD Fire Prevention Committee Participated at Dr. Higdon Elementary School Back To School Meet and Greet

Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department and EMS was honored to be a part of the back-to-school meet and greet at Higdon Elementary School! 🚒❤️

Our members were on hand with plenty of Fire Prevention coloring books, fire hats, and fire safety pamphlets for parents, along with fun giveaways and important fire safety information for our students and families.

Helping answer questions, share fire safety information, and hand out our Fire Prevention materials and gifts for the kids were EMS Assistant Chief Joellen Lawman, Firefighter Teagan Goldsmith, Fire Cadet Devin Gottschalk, and Jr. Assistant Fire Chief Sawyer Lawman.

We loved getting the opportunity to meet with our community, make fire prevention fun, and help teach our children about the importance of fire and life safety. 🧯🔥🚒

A special thank you to Higdon Elementary School for having us and for continuing to support our community partnership!

Motor Vehicle Collision – Rock Point Road

Just after midnight, units from the Cobb Island Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding departments responded to the 15100 block of Rock Point Road for a reported motor vehicle collision with people trapped.

Rescue Engine 6 arrived on scene and found one vehicle off the roadway, on its side and into multiple telephone poles. Rescue Engine 6 established command, and crews began assessing the scene.

Once the scene was deemed safe by SMECO Squad 10, crews from PA 289 and RE28 began stabilizing the vehicle. Chief 1A arrived shortly afterward and assumed command of the incident.

Rescue Engine 6 and PA 14 gained access to the patient, allowing crews to begin patient care while additional resources worked to safely extricate the occupant. Extrication was completed through the combined efforts of Rescue Engine 6, Squad 10, Paramedic Ambulance 289, and Rescue Engine 28.
Engine 151 operated as the suppression unit during the incident. PA 14 and the SMDO
provided patient care.

The incident was brought under control through the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies. We would like to thank all of the mutual-aid departments and personnel who assisted on scene.

We wish for a speedy recovery for the patient.

Please slow down, stay alert, and use caution while traveling on our roadways.
