Our Fire Prevention Week series continues! Today, Coburg Volunteer Fire district is talking about where you charge your devices. 📱⚡

Did you know that charging your phone, tablet, or other rechargeable devices in the wrong location can increase the risk of a fire?

🔥 Here are a few tips to help keep your home safe:
✅ Charge devices on a hard, flat surface.� ✅ Keep charging devices away from blankets, pillows, clothing, and other combustible materials.� ✅ Make sure charging areas are clear and well-ventilated.� ✅ Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storing your devices.� 🚫 Avoid charging devices on beds, couches, or piles of clothing.
Lithium-ion batteries can overheat, and if a battery fails, nearby materials can quickly catch fire. A simple change in where you charge your devices can help reduce that risk!

🏠 Take a moment today to check your charging areas at home. A few small changes can make a big difference in keeping your family safe.

A friendly reminder from Coburg Volunteer Fire District, Residential Backyard Burn Season does not open until October 15th and you will need a copy of the letter permit on site. They are free of charge and are located in the box at the front door of the fire house to pick up anytime. Please follow the guidelines outlined in the permit.

Phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, and other rechargeable devices rely on batteries that can become dangerous when they’re damaged or improperly charged.
⚡ Charge Smart:
✅ Use the charger and charging equipment recommended by the manufacturer.
✅ Inspect cords and chargers for damage before using them.
✅ Keep charging areas clear of anything that can burn.
✅ Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging and storing your devices.
🚫 Never use a damaged battery or charger.
🚫 Avoid using questionable or incompatible charging equipment.

It’s Fire Prevention Week!

This week, Coburg Fire Volunteers are joining departments across the country to promote fire safety in our homes and community.

This year’s theme: “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” From phones to power tools, many everyday items use rechargeable batteries—and how we charge them matters.

Over the next 5 days, we’ll be sharing tips to help keep you and your family safe.

In late September, Coburg Volunteer Fire District had the honor of supporting the South Willamette Valley  Honor Flight during their send-off from the Eugene VA as they traveled through our community.

In addition, we were proud to have two of our personnel serve as medics, accompanying the veterans on their trip to Washington, D.C.

This was a truly meaningful opportunity for our members to give back and help ensure these veterans—who have given so much—were cared for every step of the way. We are grateful to have played a small part in such an incredible experience.

Early this morning at 5:16 AM, Oakridge Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a House Fire at 47699 Fairy Glen.

While enroute, Oakridge Fire Command requested one mutual aid assistance from Dexter Fire.

Oakridge Engine 1511 arrived at 5:26 AM at 47699 Fairy Glen, the address originally provided by dispatch and the structure most heavily involved in fire. Emergency responders were advised that someone may still be inside the home. Oakridge firefighters immediately made entry and conducted a search of the residence. No occupants were found inside.

Shortly after beginning the initial fire attack, crews discovered that two additional homes were also burning in the neighboring Monte Vista Mobile Home Park.

With three structures involved and limited personnel on scene, Oakridge Fire Command upgraded to activate Base 1 response to coordinate a broader countywide mutual-aid effort. This response brought additional fire resources from partner agencies to support simultaneous fire attack, suppression, and containment operations.

Eugene-Springfield Fire was the second engine to arrive at approximately 6:14 AM to provided fire attack operations on the two mobile homes burning within Monte Vista Mobile Home Park and prevent further spread of the fire. Additional mutual-aid agencies responded to support the overall incident and strengthen the coordinated response.

Oakridge Police and Public Works also responded to aid in emergency efforts.

Through coordinated operations, established countywide mutual-aid agreements, and the strong working relationships among neighboring fire agencies, crews contained the incident to the three homes involved and prevented the fire from spreading to additional homes.

Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office responded with Oregon State Police’s accelerant-detection canine. All investigation into the cause of the fires is being conducted with the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Oakridge Police have made an arrest in connection with the three house fires that occurred yesterday morning. The individual arrested is suspected of being responsible for setting the fires.The investigation is still active and ongoing, with Oakridge Police working in partnership with Oregon State Police and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.

An official Law Enforcement press release will be issued once the agencies involved have had the opportunity to conduct a thorough investigation and confirm additional details.
