It's officially October and National Farm to School Month!!
This year, we are celebrating around the theme, "Creating Thriving Communities - Local Food in Every School." We're uplifting the powerful, positive impact of local procurement in creating thriving communities. 🍎 ✨
Procurement is the process schools and early care sites go through to source and purchase food for school meals. And when food is locally procured directly from the growers, fishers, and ranchers in their region, the results are delicious: healthier, fresher school meals that students genuinely enjoy!
The benefits of local procurement go beyond the plate. It also opens up a vital market opportunity for the small and mid-sized farmers who make up the foundation of resilient local food systems.
