Established by Maynard Olson in 1989. Maynard and his sons, Ron & Bill Olson, along with grandsons Mark & Matt Olson, started out by lighting fireworks off on the 4th of July in 1989 to a small group of family & friends in Maynard's backyard. For a small town show, the fireworks were pretty good. Each year more & more people started attending Maynard's show. It eventually grew to the point where M
aynard's family owned business, Scheideggar Implement, started sponsoring the show. The fireworks budget grew each year and so did the crowd. Years later Don Hildebrand joined the crew and donated a microphone & large sound system and started playing music during the show. At this point the crowd size was in the hundreds. Other sponsors came along and donated beverages and food to the crowd attending the show. Maynard watched as he created something very special in this small town. Unfortunately Maynard passed away in 1999. At that time Ron Olson took over as leader of the Waumandee Fireworks Crew. As a tribute to Maynard, the show got bigger and bigger - a class A fireworks permit was obtained, the crowd number continued to grow and more members joined the crew to help: Nick Neudigate, Jon Wineski, Adam Olson. In 2013 the show moved across the street to the St. Boniface Church softball field and Waumandee State Bank took over as the show's primary sponsor. The Waumandee Area Lions Club and Buffalo County Dairy Promotion also currently sponsor the event. Crowd size is unknow but is now predicted to be in the thousands as the line of parked vehicles cover both sides of the street stretching nearly a mile out. By 2020 the Waumandee Fireworks Crew was fully formed with additional members added (Jesse Hartmann, Griffin Wineski) and a new focus for it's shows: honor our military. A giant 6x10 flag was purchased and various branches of the military have since been invited to participate. Today's show consists of a nearly 45 minute patriotic fireworks experience completely synched to music featuring ground effects, stationary fireworks, large fountains, 500 gram multi-effect fireworks as well as hundreds of 3 - 5 inch aerial mortals going as high as 600 feet.
