An Invitation

The Londonderry Township Historical Committee invites you to join us at Manor Presbyterian Church, 505 Street Road (Rt. 926), Cochranville, PA on Saturday, September 26, 202026 as we celebrate our Nation’s 250th Anniversary.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Janet Witman and Brandywine Harps will present a “Patriotic Tribute with Brandywine Harps” in the sanctuary.
Bring your chairs and/or blankets and enjoy a light lunch outside from 12:00 – 1:00 provided by the Londonderry Township Historical Committee.

From 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Charlie Zahm and Tad Marks will celebrate with “The Liberty Tree”. An unforgettable concert sharing songs and stories that inspired a young Nation.

We will then go outside for an ice cream social.
Within walking distance from the parking lot, you will be given the opportunity to visit F***s Manor Cemetery where six Revolutionary War Patriots are buried. A Revolutionary War Patriot will greet everyone to share history of the War and those who fought for our young Nation. You will also hear the special sound of a piper playing to honor the Patriots.
September 26, 2026, promises to be a day of wonderful music and stories celebrating the 250th Anniversary of our Great Nation!!
(There is limited ADA access to the second-floor sanctuary via a chair lift.)

Heads up Londonderry! Tar & Chip work this Friday 7/24 on the following streets:

F***s Manor Rd (the one-lane by the old Styer Farm)

Forest Manor Rd (just our piece right next to the cemetery

Mindy Acres (Fieldstone, Mindy, Bittersweet)

Colton Dr

Fernwood (the development with Greenfield Rd & Harvest Drive)

Beth Ln

Birchwood Dr

Keller Rd

**Please remember to keep your vehicles off the street and out of the way so the crew can sweep/blow the pavements clean prior to coating with the sealant. Stone will be placed and rolled into the sealant within minutes so that traffic can resume. This means you should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

The contractor said all the work will happen on Friday. Be sure to have your car windows and house windows shut so the dust doesn't get in them.

Tar & Chip is the only treatment available for roads with cracks up to 1" deep. It fills the shallow cracks and prevents them from getting worse. It costs about $2.10 per square yard versus letting the road break up and need base repair at 4xs the cost and longer road closures. There's no way our budget could handle eliminating tar & chip preservation and rely solely on paving repair. Ben Franklin was right when he said an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

****when driving on these roads after treatment, you need to keep speeds under 25 mph so you don't chip up your own car and any car coming towards you. As I stated last year, if you see a car speeding toward you on one of these roads, your safest bet is to pull into a driveway far enough that their rocks can't hit your car OR you pull across the road with your 4 ways on and block it so they have to stop. Then you move out of the way and continue on. How it is the year 2026 and people are too stupid to know to drive slower on t/c roads is beyond me...I can't explain why people seem to get dumber by the day, but we have to expect it and this is the best way I have found.

These streets will be swept in about 3-4 weeks to clean up all the loose gravel. The tar underneath has to have sufficient time to dry or else it will bleed back up through the stones and get on everybody's car, so don't even bother calling in to the office to ask for the sweeping...I will be on it as soon as the tar is cured so we don't have to deal with flying stones from stupid drivers.

There's always somebody out there who criticizes tar & chip work, but they're just uneducated in pavement care. If there was another way, everyone would likely do it since municipalities would love to avoid all the complainers.

Please spread the word to your friends/neighbors in these neighborhoods as well as anybody else you know who drives through them. Avoiding them will be the best way to ensure you're not delayed on your Friday commute or get paint damage on your car from idiots.

ROAD WORK: 6/30-31. Expect delays on F***s Manor Rd from the church up to the old Bartoli Mushroom Farm; Baker Rd from Rt 926 to Elm Creek Rd. 6/31: work back in Light Farm Drive's cul-de-sac and the entrance to Beth Ln.

Please avoid the areas if you don't live/work there. We will do our best to help residents get through, but you will have to wait a few minutes.

Your input will directly inform the goals and recommendations for the Comprehensive Plan which the Township will use to guide policy and decision making until the next update in 10-20 years. Whether you’ve lived here for decades or just moved in, your voice matters.

Can’t stay long? That’s okay. Even 10–15 minutes of input makes a difference.

This is a community plan, meant to enrich your life in Londonderry, and it works best when planned together.

Support Octorara Football Iron Blitz Scrap Drive: The Octorara Football "Iron Blitz" Scrap Drive is on Saturday, April 25, from 8 AM–1 PM at the Octorara High School parking lot to support the team. Community members can drop off metal items to help raise funds. Donations are also accepted all month long at Harris Metals, 446 Gum Tree Rd, Coatesville, PA 19320.
