Nearly 340 kids took part in the Optimist Club Kid’s Fishing Derby on June 6. It was a fun time for all, as the day was sunny, and many children were enthusiastic about learning and improving their fishing skills. Mayor Lee Ann Reiter stopped by and said, “This is a great and really fun event for the kids.” All the kids received gifts, including fishing poles, gear, gift bags, bait, a lifetime conservation stamp and a grand prize: a kayak.
The event is cosponsored by the East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited group, and member Shawn Anderson noted, “Our native trout is the Yellowstone Cutthroat trout. It’s National Fishing and Boating week, so it’s a good opportunity to learn angling at this event.”
Other cosponsors are the U.S. Forest Service, Wyoming Game & Fish Department. Financial sponsors are the Shoshone Recreation District, Park County Parks and Recreation Board, Wyoming Outdoorsmen, WYIdlife Fund, Black Hills Energy, Cornerstone Church, and of course the Optimists Club. A special thank you to Rich Gonzalez who organized this event.
The Optimist Club provided a free hot dog lunch with snacks and drinks. Thanks to all who attended.
