This lighting project at the Bighorn Basin Gun Club will extend range hours for youth shooting sports programs, giving the next generation of hunters and shooters more time and safer conditions to build their skills. Investments like this are exactly why Wyoming Outdoorsmen exists: to support the clubs and programs that keep our outdoor traditions strong for years to come.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible!

The Bighorn Basin Gun Club announced the organization has secured a $6,000 matching grant from the Wyoming Outdoorsmen and, with strong support from local businesses and community partners, has exceeded its $6,000 fundraising goal for Phase 1 of the “Lighting the Way” Youth Shooting Sports Light...

One shot at a time! The Wyoming Outdoorsmen is working to preserve Wyoming’s outdoor heritage by introducing youth and women to the hunting and shooting sports through structured education programs.

The 2026 WY Hunt Fish - Heart Mountain Bird Hunt program launched with the first of 3 shotgun skills development clinics at the Cody Shooting Complex. This is the 6th year for the program, done in collaboration with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and designed to develop new hunters to be self- sufficient, safe, and skilled shooters and bird hunters.

For more information, visit the WY Outdoorsmen website.

Special thanks to our sponsors at the Wyoming Community Foundation and the Wyoming Wildlife Foundation

250 years of freedom. Out here, that means clean water, open land, and traditions worth passing on.

Teach a kid to fish. Pass down the hunt. Protect the places that made us. This land raised us; let's make sure it raises the next generation too.

Happy 250th, America. Here's to the next 250!!

The 2026 WyO Whitetail Doe hunt program entered its 9th season with a “bang” last weekend with Range Day to teach rifle basics to the participants. The program has become very popular and has nearly doubled in size with 17 new youth and women hunters participating this year. The program is designed as an educational experience to develop self-sufficiency and confidence for the participants to ultimately hunt big game on their own. The next step is a simulated hunt with life ammo using 2-D deer targets in field conditions. “Graduation” is experiencing a high success deer hunt helping manage whitetail deer populations on private ranches and providing awesome food for the table.

Special thanks to our mentor volunteers, ranch owners who donated access, and our sponsors, including the Wyoming Community Foundation.

Nearly 340 kids took part in the Optimist Club Kid’s Fishing Derby on June 6. It was a fun time for all, as the day was sunny, and many children were enthusiastic about learning and improving their fishing skills. Mayor Lee Ann Reiter stopped by and said, “This is a great and really fun event for the kids.” All the kids received gifts, including fishing poles, gear, gift bags, bait, a lifetime conservation stamp and a grand prize: a kayak.

The event is cosponsored by the East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited group, and member Shawn Anderson noted, “Our native trout is the Yellowstone Cutthroat trout. It’s National Fishing and Boating week, so it’s a good opportunity to learn angling at this event.”

Other cosponsors are the U.S. Forest Service, Wyoming Game & Fish Department. Financial sponsors are the Shoshone Recreation District, Park County Parks and Recreation Board, Wyoming Outdoorsmen, WYIdlife Fund, Black Hills Energy, Cornerstone Church, and of course the Optimists Club. A special thank you to Rich Gonzalez who organized this event.

The Optimist Club provided a free hot dog lunch with snacks and drinks. Thanks to all who attended.
