Our hearts go out to Spokane, Stevens Counties, and those who have been affected by the fire complex over the last week. While our mobe resources are currently deployed in the Six Rivers Forest national forest in California.

Due to the lack of resources and needs across the Pacific Northwest, E21 was selected to stay in place and a local hand crew of 20 personnel was sent to Spokane from CA.

Our crew will start their return Aug 17th and may be crew swapped with local agency firefighters from Kootenai county later.

It is important when resources accept an assignment the crew fulfills that agreement.

We want to thank all agencies that have accepted an assignment to help our Washington neighbors.

Update on K9 Appa

Kootenai County, Idaho — The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office is pleased to share a positive update on K9 Appa, who was injured in the line of duty. Following the incident, K9 Appa underwent two surgeries yesterday and his prognosis is good. K9 Appa has since been released from veterinary care and is now recovering at home with his handler and family, where he will continue to receive the rest and care needed during his recovery.

The outpouring of support from our community has been overwhelming. We are deeply grateful for the prayers, encouragement, and well wishes that have been extended to K9 Appa, his handler, and our entire Sheriff's Office family during this difficult time.

While K9 Appa still has a road to recovery ahead of him, we are encouraged by his progress and remain hopeful for his continued healing.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the veterinary professionals whose expertise and compassionate care played a critical role in K9 Appa's treatment, as well as to everyone who has stood beside us with their unwavering support.

Thank you for keeping K9 Appa in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to recover.

EXTREME FIRE DANGER
RED FLAG WARNING

A strong cold front will sweep across the Inland Northwest this Saturday. Very warm and dry conditions paired with gusty winds will contribute to rapid fire spread for any new or ongoing fires.

The National Weather Service in Spokane has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 11 AM to 11 PM PDT Saturday.

Please avoid any activities that may produce sparks or fire and report any smoke or fire activity immediately.

Your firefighters, who are on a Federal Mobilization in CA, have been assigned with the Missoula Firefighters IAFF Local 271 in the Six Rivers National Forest.

Every Morning both crews meet, do their truck checks, and equipment checks. After they finish they have their daily Taskforce Briefing before they go to their assignment.

On Sunday while staged with the Idaho Falls Fire Department in the Klamath Nation Forest in the Oak Knoll District, E-21 participated in EMS training covering chainsaw injuries and a recent firefighter injury report on another fire earlier in the year.

A big thank you to the crews for taking the opportunity to better their skillsets and to the Idaho Falls Firefighters for their instruction!
