Ghost Mossariums (Ages 13+)– Saturday, October 31 (11 am)

Capture the spirit of the season in a bottle and join us for a creative hands-on workshop where you will design a miniature haunted mossarium (a terrarium containing moss). You will use polymer clay to sculpt a small ghost or other creature to inhabit your mossarium, then using live moss to turn your jar into a mini self-sustaining ecosystem! All materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring a small jar to use.

Idaho Battle of the Books® Book Club
It’s like sports, but with books! Participate in a fun statewide reading experience by joining a team at the Coeur d’Alene Library. IBOB is a program that brings booklovers together to compete in book-themed trivia competitions that focus on quality literature, comprehension, and teamwork. Registration is required, along with a commitment to join a 4-person team, read at least 4 of the 16 IBOB curated book titles, and attend 1pm book club meetings on the 1st Saturday of each month from November through February. Participants will be expected to attend our library’s competition in March, with the possibility of moving on to district or regional competitions where they’ll battle kids from other libraries and schools.

Today was our AUTUMN STORYFEST!!! Each year the Wastewater Department grows a crop of pumpkins with their special Coeur d'Green Compost and they let Coeur d'Alene Public Library give them all away! Fraud Awareness & Smart Money for Adults

Fraud Awareness (Ages 16+)– Thursday, October 29 (10 am) -Join Global Credit Union to learn how to protect yourself from financial loss and stress in today’s digital landscape. Explore common types of fraud like phishing & skimming and learn how scammers constantly adapt to prevention measures. Gain insights about credit monitoring, the BBB Scam Tracker, online account security, and steps to take if you fall victim to fraud. Attendees will receive handouts and have the opportunity to ask questions. Find us in the Gozzer Room.

Smart Money (Ages 16+)- Thursday, October 29 (5 pm) - Join Global Credit Union for an adult financial literacy class focusing on intermediate topics such as budget basics, establishing good savings habits, understanding your credit report and the cost of credit, retirement investing, and more! Find us in the Gozzer Room.

Winter Birds of Tubbs Hill (Ages 14+) - Saturday, November 7 (8-11 am)

Join Coeur d’Alene Audubon Society for a winter morning walk around Tubbs Hill in search of the birds that visit this scenic area during the colder months. We’ll explore the trails all over the hill, watching for winter residents, waterfowl, and perhaps a few unexpected visitors. All birding experience levels are welcome; come enjoy a morning outdoors, sharpen your identification skills, and see what we can find together! We will meet at the 10th street parking lot on the east side of Tubbs Hill at 8 am sharp. We’ll maintain a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for birding, but Tubbs Hill includes some steep, uneven sections and hills that require moderate exertion.

Sensory Storytime (Ages 3-8) - Wednesdays, October 28, and November 25 (10 am)

Join us for a monthly storytime that’s designed for children with sensory and adaptive needs, and their caregivers. Welcoming to neurodivergence and disability, Sensory Storytime features a consistent visual schedule, announced transitions, low lighting, decreased distractions, and a small attendance capacity. We will enjoy stories, music, movement, play, and sensory activities that are typically at a preschool level. Noise-blocking headphones, weighted stuffed animals, and other sensory tools will also be available. Storytime will be followed by a variety of sensory activity stations.

What to expect during this story time: Attendees do not need to sit during the program. Children can feel free to stand or move around during the program as long as they are safe for themselves and others. Children can participate with their voices in any way they like to, and enjoy other activities of their choosing while listening to our stories. Attendees are welcome to arrive late, leave early, and leave the Storytime Room any time they need a break. The same visual schedule will be used each month, so participants will know what to expect. If you would like a copy of the visual schedule ahead of time or if you have any questions, please email [email protected]. Space is limited to 10 participants, so online registration is required.

TGIF Club (Ages 12-19) - Fridays, September 4, 11, 18, October 9, 16, 23, 30, & November 6, 13, 20 (4-5:30pm)

Play games, make art, make friends! Meets most Fridays in the Teen Zone.

Once a month, we also have a TGIF Special that includes special supplies and activities. Here’s our plans for this fall:
October 30 – Quacky Cosplay Contest
Use paint, air-dry clay, felt, and your imagination to duck-orate a rubber duck. If your duck is the most “quack-tastic”, you could win a prize!

November 20 – Giant Games (in the Community Room)
Celebrate International Games Month by playing giant games (like Giant Throw Throw Burrito, Giant Uno, and Giant Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza) together!
