Our Department is thankful for its continued great partnership with Henderson County District Attorney Jenny Palmer and her Office to help keep repeat intoxicated drivers of the streets!

As many of you remember, July 9th, 2022, 54 year old Donald Burns crashed into two trucks and pushed them into the Dollar General causing damage to the building. The collision was so great that it knocked merchandise of the shelves inside. Burns then defecated on himself and left a trail of f***s through the parking lot. Burns had FIVE previous convictions for Driving While Intoxicated. Sergeant Welch and Officer Martin arrested Burns and booked him for DWI 3rd of more.

Burns was convicted for this offense from last July and on June 6th 2023, the 392nd District Court Judge Scott McKee sentenced Burns to 25 years in Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

It is with a heavy heart that I must fulfill my duty to notify the CCPD family and the community of the loss of Officer Shaun Jackson.

Officer Jackson passed last evening. As we gather the details we should keep his family and friends in our prayers.

Though Officer Jackson had only been with us a short time he quickly demonstrated the commitment to the public safety of the citizens, visitors and business owners of the city of Coffee City.

Shaun had an electrifying smile. He lit up every room he walked into. He was always so positive and out going.

We were blessed to have him as part of our family even for a short period of time.

He will be irreplaceable and greatly missed. Our hearts ache during this tragic time.

On Saturday morning just after midnight, Wendy Ray (pictured below) of Tyler, Texas pulled into a closed business of SH 155 in Coffee City. An off duty Coffee City Police Officer and two business employees were already at the business and asked Ray if she needed help. Ray not knowing she was talking to a police officer, laughed and told them she was drunk and lost. After a brief conversation with Ray, the off duty officer contacted the two on duty Officers, LT L. Hicks and Officer A. McCord who were able to respond to the scene.

After further investigation, LT L. Hicks placed Ray into custody for Driving While Intoxicated. Ray has since posted a $5000 bond and been released. Good job by the off duty officer to stay vigilant even while off duty and the two citizens that was able to get a drunk driver off the streets before she hurt or killed anyone.

Yesterday evening around 7:30p Officer Puyear attempted to catch up to a reckless driver traveling at speeds on 96mph on SH 155. Officer Puyear lost sight of the driver momentarily, but passing motorists flagged him down and advised the driver had turned down CR 4120. Officer Puyear was able to locate the vehicle and the driver who was identified as Damion Lindsey of Frankston, Texas on CR 4104, and detained two other passengers. Chief J Portillo and LT Watson responded to assist.

Just before Officer Puyear located Lindsey, he had pulled into a random homeowner’s driveway. That homeowner happened to be armed and confronted Lindsey. Lindsey wisely decided to leave the homeowners property before stopping just down the road.

Lindsey showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking several beers. Lindsey was taken into custody without further incident. The other two passengers were released from the scene.

CCPD would like to again thank the citizens who assisted our officer and got this reckless intoxicated driver off the streets.
