The Coffeyville Fire Department has evolved from its original purpose of fighting fires to its current task of providing a much broader level of emergency services to the public. Over the years, this expanded role along with a variety of community risk reduction activities and initiatives, has allowed the department to demonstrate exceptional community value. The Fire Department serves a resident

population of over 10,000 people covering 9.2 square miles. In addition to the City of Coffeyville, the department also provides emergency responses throughout the county through automatic and mutual aid agreements with surrounding jurisdictions. The Coffeyville Fire Department is one of 13 Regional Hazmat Teams in Kansas and is responsible for 12 counties. There are 19 fire personnel on staff and all are Hazmat Technician certified. The department also has technicians in the areas of confined space, high angle, trench, structural collapse, electric vehicle response, child passenger safety and swift water rescue. We currently have 16 Emergency Medical Technicians on staff.

At 1:51 a.m. on August 6, the Coffeyville Fire Department responded to the 1200 block of Stark Street for a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a detached garage with heavy fire on all sides. Crews quickly brought the fire under control and extinguished it without incident.

The Coffeyville Fire Department would like to thank the Dearing Fire Department and South Coffeyville Fire Department for their assistance and additional manpower.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Coffeyville Police Department and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office.

🚨 Traffic Alert – Active Gas Leak 🚨

Coffeyville Fire Department crews are currently on scene with Atmos Energy at an active natural gas leak near the intersection of 8th Street & Buckeye.

The intersection and surrounding area will be closed to traffic for the next few hours while crews work to safely control the leak.

For everyone’s safety, please avoid the area and use alternate routes. Several neighboring businesses have also been asked to close for the remainder of the day as a precaution.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Update: We were able to get a better photo from the animal shelter. The staff will be checking him for a microchip today.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on July 1, 2026, the Coffeyville Fire Department responded to River Road, below the Water Treatment Plant for a report of a dog trapped in the Verdigris River.

Firefighters deployed the department’s rescue boat and located the dog approximately 50 yards downstream, where it was clinging to the riverbank. During the rescue, the frightened dog bit one of the firefighters, causing minor superficial injuries. Despite the bite, crews were able to safely bring the dog aboard the rescue boat.

The dog was safely removed from the river and turned over to the Coffeyville Police Department, who transported it to the local animal shelter.

We’d like to thank all responding personnel for their teamwork and are happy to report that this rescue had a positive outcome for the animal.
