Massachusetts South Shore Progressives

Massachusetts South Shore Progressives In pursuit of progressive political social dialogue and change, learning and activism.

Massachusetts area folks interested in progressive political, social and cultural dialogue, learning and activism. We like the the original definition of progressive as embodied by Teddy Roosevelt's Square Deal: The Square Deal was President Theodore Roosevelt's domestic program formed upon three basic ideas: conservation of natural resources, control of corporations, and consumer protection. Thes

e three demands are often referred to as the "three C's" of Roosevelt's Square Deal. Thus, it aimed at helping middle class citizens and involved attacking plutocracy and big trusts while at the same time protecting business from the most extreme demands of organized labor. A progressive Republican, Roosevelt believed in government action to mitigate social evils, and as president denounced "the representatives of predatory wealthโ€ as guilty of โ€œall forms of iniquity from the oppression of wage workers to defrauding the public."

Local Democracy Actions This Week: Hingham, Hull โ€” and now Cohasset

Indivisible Hingham Hull has announced several upcoming local opportunities for people who want to stay informed, gather with neighbors, and take part in visible community action.

New Cohasset Rally Begins This Saturday

A new regular monthly rally is starting in Cohasset:

Saturday, May 23
9:00 AM โ€“ 10:00 AM
Route 3A, in front of Stop & Shop
To be held on the 4th Saturday of every month

Organizers describe the purpose as building visible community resistance, meeting neighbors, and exercising First Amendment rights of assembly, speech, and petition.

Hull Standout

There is also a regular Hull standout:

Thursday evenings
5:30 PM โ€“ 6:30 PM
Nantasket Avenue, across from The Parrot
Held weekly while the weather allows.

Participants are encouraged to bring a flag, sign, friend, or simply come stand with neighbors.

Hingham Stand Up Speak Out Rally

The weekly Hingham rally continues:

Wednesdays
10:30 AM โ€“ 11:30 AM
Hingham Square, near the Post Office

The email notes that the Hingham event includes singing and community gathering.

Other Action Items Mentioned

The email also encourages people to contact their Massachusetts representatives in support of the PROTECT Act and to stay engaged as the 2026 midterm elections approach.

For those interested in local civic action on the South Shore, Indivisible Hingham Hull is encouraging people to show up in whatever way works best โ€” rallying, calling representatives, asking questions, or simply connecting with neighbors.

05/11/2026

Remember that movements are not built in one moment. They are built by people who keep showing up โ€” even when the work feels heavy.

This Motherโ€™s Day, the message honors the spirit of Julia Ward Howe, the abolitionist, womenโ€™s rights advocate, and peace activist who called on women to organize for peace, justice, and the โ€œamicable settlementโ€ of international conflict. That same spirit of civic courage is needed today as we continue working for democracy, social justice, voting rights, public education, immigrant rights, and accountable government.

There are many ways to get involved right now. Volunteers can support student organizing efforts for the 2026 elections, sign up to write Get Out the Vote postcards for key races, join trainings on protecting democracy, attend organizing meetings to defend public schools, and learn more about fair and humane immigration enforcement.

Locally, there are also important opportunities to connect and act. Indivisible Hingham Hull will host a May 13 discussion at the Hingham Community Center on journalism, legacy media, local news, and how citizens can stay informed in an age of misinformation. South Shore organizers are also preparing for campaign work this summer through a Pembroke/Marshfield office where volunteers can help with postcards, phone banks, canvassing, and local campaign events.

There are continuing standouts and actions across the South Shore, including Scituate, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Burlington, and other communities. These gatherings are a simple but powerful way to stand up, speak out, and remind one another that we are not alone.

Stay strong, stay determined, and stay involved. Democracy depends on ordinary people continuing to act together โ€” locally, peacefully, and persistently.
