Last week, the high school wildlife classes got to see how we train and use gundogs in upland and waterfowl hunting. Guest speaker Ron Glaman and his dog Katniss gave great demonstrations showing students training techniques and discussing various other parts of the sport. Ron and Kat are part of the Muddy Waters Retriever Club, where they also participate in hunt tests and field trials to help keep them engaged as a team. Thank you so much, Ron and Kat, for providing this opportunity to our students.

Thanks to Chad Franzen for presenting to seventh-grade students today. Students were able to engage, ask questions, and learn about a variety of weather events and conditions in our area. According to Mr. Franzen, it looks like we may have a mild winter and not so many snow days. Thanks, Mr. Franzen, for the donation of weather tools and for your visit to Colby MS.

One of the classroom grandmas in the Elementary, Grandma Carol, recently celebrated her birthday with a class. Classroom grandmas make our Elementary school extra special, and we love to celebrate them!

Have you ever wondered what yearbook club does every other Wednesday? Yesterday, the meeting started with senior editors Adrian Capetillo and C**t Reynolds walking through the week's photo opportunities and the day's Jostens Yearbook Avenue task. They showed members how to access the image library and taught them the importance of tagging and sorting photos (this gives those in the photos access to the images whether the images make it into the yearbook or not—thanks to Jostens’ Yearbook+ feature, started last year). Then members divided into groups and started tackling the 3,000 untagged and unsorted photos Yearbook and Student Publications students have already accumulated this year. Although daunting, members enjoyed diving into the photos and seeing themselves and their peers participating in various school activities.

Ms. Marie's first graders really enjoyed pumpkin week. We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin. We worked together to scoop out all the guts. We enjoyed trying roasted pumpkin seeds. We loved our fizzy pumpkin volcano. We kept our pumpkin in a jar in our classroom and will keep an eye on it to see if it becomes a plant next spring. So much Pumpkin Fun!!

A bushel of fun! 🍏 Field trip fun at Rock Ridge Apple Orchard for our 4th graders! They spent the day learning all about orchard life and burning off energy in the outdoor play area. 🚜🍂✨

Students in Mr. Buchanan's AP Chemistry class worked on a lab called “Gases, the Ideal Gas Law, and Typical Chem Problems.” During this lab, students applied ideal gas laws and typical chemistry problems to solve for unknown gas pressures. First, they used the gas law to determine how much gas was in a canister before it exploded. Next, they performed a similar procedure using a flask containing magnesium and sand submerged in HCL to produce hydrogen gas, and then collected it in a balloon and measured the volume and pressure. Finally, using the formula PV=nRT, the students calculated the moles of hydrogen; they converted that to grams of magnesium and compared it to the actual mass to check their accuracy.
