Did you know you can...Steam artichokes in a rice cooker?
It's true! Cut off the top 1/3, trim off the stem and remove thorny tips from the outer leaves. Add 3/4 cup water to the cooker, place artichoke in the steamer basket, cover and cook for about 30 minutes or until leaves pull off easily.

Just a little background about Winston and Maggie. We met Winston through Walk Kansas 2014, as he led the team "Winston's Woofy Walkers" in Johnson County. Winston was a champion of the program and posted regularly on his page, "Winston", and he continued to send our State Walk KS director, Sharolyn Jackson, a tweet each week throughout the year -- his "woof out Wednesday" tweet. He and his human, Kelley Patterson, were excited to play a role in promoting the program state-wide this year.

Maggie belongs to friends of Sharolyn who live in California, and they are in the entertainment business (writer and voice talent). The voices of Maggie and Winston have Kansas connections. Kathy Krehbiel Perkin, the voice of Maggie, is from Moundridge, and the voice of Winston is Bill Farmer, from Pratt. Bill is also the voice of Goofy for Disney. Kathy's husband, Greg Perkins, is the writer/producer.
