There are cabbages and then there are CABBAGES. Congratulations to Nathan, a 4th grader at Malletts Bay Elementary School for growing this 13lb cabbage and winning Vermont’s Bonnie Plants Cabbage Contest. For his horticultural effort he earned a $1,000 scholarship and the respect of cabbage aficionados everywhere. We’re not saying Colchester is special, but even the cabbages like it here! Well done, Nathan!

The mission of the Bonnie Plants Program is to inspire a love of vegetable gardening in young people, teach kids where their food comes from, and grow our next generation of gardeners.

After six rounds of March Madness-style online voting, Vermont fans named a winner for the state's best high school sports mascot/nickname.
