Colchester Rescue Squad Colchester Rescue Squad (CRS) was founded in 1961, by members of the Malletts Bay Fire Department.

Colchester Rescue is comprised of a combination career and volunteer staff providing Emergency Medical Services to the Town of Colchester, it's residents and visitors. For 50 years Colchester Rescue has continued to provide emergency medical services to the residents of Colchester, and surrounding communities. CRS has been at the forefront of providing the highest level of patient care to it's cit

izens since it's foundation. In September 2010, Colchester Rescue and Essex Rescue, became the first agencies to provide care at the Paramedic level, in Vermont EMS District #3.

**UPDATE**
Fire Department has turned scene over to Green Mountain Power. The road will remained closed while crews work to remove power lines and fix broken power poles. No further updates will be provided.

Colchester Point Road between the intersections of Porters Point Road and Red Oak Drive will be closed for an extended period of time due to a motor vehicle accident involving power lines down in the roadway. Please avoid the area.

Five of our members are running the VT City Marathon as a relay team in support of Never Give Up Ever!

The mission of Never Give Up Ever is to provide money for research for childhood diseases that are terminal or chronic in nature and to provide financial support for families who are experiencing serious financial hardship related to having a child with a chronic illness, terminal illness or life altering event in their lives that requires long term medical care at VT Children's Hospital. Support for these families may include, but is not limited to; gas cards, meal cards, money for lodging and inevitable related expenses due to the loss of wages and overwhelming medical bills during inpatient hospitalizations and outpatient appointments.

Burn Permit Notice – Colchester Fire Department

**Update**
Burn permit ban has concluded, permits will now be issued.

Due to the Very High Fire Danger rating for our area, as determined by the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, the Colchester Fire Department will not be issuing burn permits until further notice.

Additionally, all previously issued open burn permits are hereby suspended and void until further notice.

These precautions are necessary to help protect our community, neighboring properties, and emergency responders during this period of elevated fire risk.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding. Please continue to monitor official department channels for future updates regarding burn permit status.

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS: We are seeking highly motivated individuals aged 18 or older to join our team as Summer Community Service Officers (CSOs). This civilian position offers a unique opportunity to serve the Colchester community by working alongside sworn officers to enhance public safety, provide community outreach, and ensure a positive presence in our town’s most active areas across varying hours, including shifts that cover nights, weekends, and holidays.

This is an ideal summer position for those who enjoy being outdoors, interacting with the public, and staying active. You will primarily operate at our various town parks and boating access points, acting as a resource for residents and visitors alike via:
-Community Engagement: Interact daily with the public to provide information, directions, and assistance at parks, beaches, and boat launches.
-Support Operations: Work alongside sworn officers to assist with non-criminal duties, which may include traffic control at special events or scenes, and performing safety checks.
-Patrol & Observation: Conduct bike and vehicle patrols of town property to ensure a safe environment for all.
-Communication: Utilize a department-issued radio to maintain contact with dispatch and other officers.
-Safety & First Aid: Monitor community safety concerns and provide initial assistance during emergencies until medical services arrive.

Candidates must be 18 years of age or older and successfully pass a criminal background check. The ability to ride a bicycle is required, as bike patrol is a primary component of the role, as is a valid driver’s license.

All summer CSO hires will complete a mandatory orientation the week prior to the start of the summer season for CPR and other specialized training.

The scammers are back. We have received reports of individuals calling members of the community and falsely identifying themselves as members of the Sheriff’s Office.

This is a scam. Do NOT send money!!!!!!!

The Sheriff’s Office will never call you to demand payment, request money, or ask for financial information over the phone.

If you receive one of these calls:

• Hang up immediately

• Do not provide any personal or financial information

• Report the incident to your local law enforcement agency

The crosswalk signal on VT‑15 (College Pkwy) near F***y Allen in Colchester is currently in flashing mode due to a wiring issue. The pedestrian buttons aren’t currently operational, the signal will stay flashing yellow, and the red light won’t activate. Repairs are planned for next week.

Drive with care and watch for crossing pedestrians.
