Last week in California, retired Lt. Jim Roy was celebrated on a national level for his work while at CPD!

During the International Association of Chiefs of Police's Impaired Driving and Traffic Safety Conference, Lt. Roy was bestowed with the Association's Richard "Dick" Studdard Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Emeritus Award. The honor recognizes formerly certified DREs who have served the goals of the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program with the highest level of integrity, demonstrated advanced knowledge and skill, and made exceptional and sustained contributions to the program.

It decorates individuals whose accomplishments are well documented and are no longer eligible to maintain active DRE certification due to retirement, promotion, or reassignment.

The Vermont Highway Safety Alliance stated, "Jim's outstanding contributions have not only helped guide and grow Vermont's DRE Program, but has made an impact across the United States and beyond."

A big and well-deserved congratulations to Lt. Roy!

Recently in a 36-hour span, our officers stopped over 30 vehicles through the Exit 16 DDI construction zone. These stops resulted in a variety of tickets and warnings-- mostly for speed-related offenses.

We would like to remind drivers that the speed limit has been lowered to 30 mph in that work zone, and fines can be doubled through there and other highway construction areas.

This past weekend, Cpl. Bressler and Det. Cpl. Fell joined with Det. Cpl. Peatman (Essex PD) and Sgt. Williamson (South Burlington PD) to participate in the Big Beautiful Life Run, Walk & Roll 5k!

Big Beautiful Life honors medically complex children and those who rally behind them. This yearly fundraising event exists to stabilize the foundation for families in chronic pediatric medical crisis, so they can focus on what matters most-- their child.

By wearing their body armor and duty belts, these four honored the daily physical and emotional weight these families carry by rucking in their gear. Their ruck symbolized the weight of daily treatments and medical travel.
