172nd Public Affairs Detachment The story of the soldiers of the Vermont National Guard. Citizen Soldiers willing and ready!

06/06/2026

Today, we remember the courage, sacrifice and resolve of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Their actions on D-Day changed the course of history and secured the freedoms we continue to defend today.

We honor the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who fought with unwavering bravery — and we remember those who never made it home.

Their legacy lives on through every generation that continues to serve.

A special thanks to our Supply and Readiness folks that allow us the time and equipment needed to tell these stories:

Good luck to our 3-172nd infantry regiment (mountain) on their deployment. Come home safe, get the mission done!

Well, you had the Adjutant General. Mr./Major General Henry “Hank” Harder jr., Col. Jacob Roy. And many others deliver speeches this weekend.

From all the speeches one thing rings true. Vermonters, we who defend, will always lead the way. That’s from the heart ❤️ .

We remember those we lost. We carry on. That’s our strength. To keep marching forward and put Vermonters ahead.
