Proud of our own Officer Barrett Magistro, featured in The Highlands Current — turning a real-life call into a children’s book that carries a powerful message.

Policing is more than calls for service — it’s compassion, connection, and moments that leave a lasting impact.

An Update on Lord Percival of the Hudson Highlands 👑🪵(Vet states it’s a “He”)

So many of you have reached out asking how our favorite Cold Spring nobleman is doing, and we are pleased to provide a royal bulletin.

I spoke directly with the esteemed veterinary office this morning. Their report: His Lordship is recuperating comfortably. Due to his unfortunate pelvic injury (sustained in what palace officials are calling “an overambitious maneuver”), he will not be making public appearances outdoors until the weather improves and his rehabilitation progresses.

At this time, Lord Percival remains in high spirits, moderately dramatic, and fully committed to physical therapy — though he has expressed strong opinions about the hospital gown.

Thank you all for your thoughtful messages, well wishes, and offers of alphalfa.

Attached is the most recent photograph of His Grace.(And if you cannot immediately deduce that this image is AI-generated, we gently recommend scheduling appointments with both your optometrist and your psychiatrist. We say this with love and civic responsibility.)
He’s humbled by the 30k views of original post.

Long live the Lord of the Highlands.

Woodchuck Update 🐾

We’re happy to report that after being unceremoniously “checked in” at Lunn Terrace, our furry patient is doing very well.

The veterinary clinic has advised that the little one has a possible slight pelvic injury, but is currently on fluids and antibiotics, is alert, eating, moving around and now resting comfortably in an incubator — which we’re told is significantly more comfortable than a sidewalk in February.

All signs are pointing toward a full recovery.

Thank you to everyone who reached out with concern. We’ll continue to provide updates as appropriate. For now, it appears this story is headed toward a happy ending — just the way we like it.

This morning, one of our officers was flagged down by a concerned resident about a “suspicious party” curled up on the sidewalk at Lunn Terrace.

Upon arrival, the officer discovered the individual in question was a very cold — and very round — woodchuck. Nearby, a pet carrier had been left in a snowbank. We can only assume a well-intentioned Good Samaritan attempted a rescue mission, reconsidered their life choices, and decided to leave the equipment behind in hopes someone else would finish the job.

Mission accepted.

Our officer utilized the abandoned carrier to safely secure the woodchuck and transport him to a local veterinary facility for care. He was cooperative during transport and declined to comment.

We truly appreciate the compassion shown by whoever made the initial effort. Wildlife situations can be unpredictable, and if you’re unable to safely assist, please contact the Cold Spring Police Department so we can respond appropriately.

And to our mystery rescuer — your pet carrier is safe and sound at the Police Department. Feel free to stop by and reclaim it.

Serving the community… one woodchuck at a time

❄️ STAY AT HOME DURING THE STORM ❄️

The Village of Cold Spring Highway Department, Cold Spring Police Department, and the Mayor are coordinating with the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department as a major winter storm impacts our area.

Residents are strongly urged to stay home and off the roads. Forecasts call for 18–24 inches of snow, winds up to 20 mph, and periods of white-out conditions throughout Sunday, January 25.

⚠️ Important Safety Reminders:
• Stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel
• If power is lost, gather family members and pets in a small, well-insulated room to conserve heat
• Have layers, blankets, water, and flashlights ready
• Call 911 if your home is compromised or if you have a medical emergency

🚜 Please allow Highway crews to keep roads clear and enable first responders to safely address emergencies.

🚫 Do not allow children or pets to play in snowbanks or drifts near roadways—plow operators may have limited visibility.

Your cooperation helps keep everyone safe. Thank you for doing your part.
