745pm Update: Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms possible. A few storms may be severe with the main hazards will be 1 to 2 inch hail, wind gusts up to 60 mph and brief heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall may result in ponding of water on roadways and poor drainage areas. A brief tornado also can not be rule out.

IN SOUTHWEST KANSAS:

THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ASHLAND CIMARRON, COLDWATER DEERFIELD, DODGE CITY, ELKHART, FOWLER GARDEN CITY, GREENSBURG HANSTON. HAVILAND. HUGOTON. JETMORE JOHNSON CITY. Good afternoon. I've just ended my conference call with NWS over our chances of severe weather this afternoon into later tonight.
We are currently in a risk level 2 out of 5 for severe weather. The tornado risk index has put us at a 5-9% chance of a tornado forming in our area. The biggest factor in this will be the low level windshears. The areas that most at risk will be mainly south of Highway 50. There's a 15-29% chance of severe hail ranging 2-3" in diameter. The severe wind risk in our area is at 30 -44%. And there is a good chance of some extreme localized flooding along with these storms. They are predicted to be slow-moving at around 20 mph which could greatly increase our chances of flooding. Timing.... That's always a tricky one. But the models show a more increased chance for severe storms in our area in the 6 to 8:00 p.m. time range.

⚠️ COMANCHE COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT – SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS ⚠️

Residents should remain weather aware this evening and overnight. Forecasts indicate thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding. Conditions can change quickly, so now is the time to prepare.

Take a few minutes now to prepare: ✅ Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, especially while you're sleeping (NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts, trusted weather apps, or local media). ✅ Know where you will take shelter if a warning is issued. The safest place is a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor, away from windows. ✅ Pack a small go-bag with:
Prescription medications, Flashlights and extra batteries, Phone chargers or power banks, Bottled water and snacks, Important documents, Shoes, a change of clothes
and items for infants or pets if needed

✅ Charge your cell phones and other essential devices before storms arrive. ✅ Secure outdoor furniture, trampolines, trash cans, and other loose items that could become airborne in strong winds. ✅ If you live in a manufactured home, identify a sturdier shelter ahead of time. ✅ Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown.
Please continue to monitor forecasts throughout the evening and be prepared to act quickly if watches or warnings are issued. Taking a few minutes to prepare now can make a significant difference when severe weather strikes.

Severe storms will once again be possible this afternoon and through mid-evening. All hazards such as large hail, damaging winds, flooding and even a tornado threat will be possible later today.

* At 1012 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located alono a line extending from near Clark State Lake to 6 miles south of Englewood moving southeast at 45 mph
