Another round of rain is making its way towards Comanche County this morning. Brief periods of heavy rain could be expected along with lightning and some wind gust of 40-45 mph. Rains will continue through this morning with temperatures expected to reach the lower 80's.

The National Weather Service in Dodge City has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Eastern Ford County in southwestern Kansas...
Kiowa County in south central Kansas...
Southeastern Meade County in southwestern Kansas...
Comanche County in south central Kansas...
Southern Edwards County in south central Kansas...
Clark County in southwestern Kansas...

* Until 1045 PM CDT.

* At 949 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from near Offerle to 7 miles south of Sitka, moving east
at 25 mph.

HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to
mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

Protection and Mullinville around 955 PM CDT.

Other locations in the path of these severe thunderstorms include
Coldwater, Lake Coldwater, Greensburg, Centerview, Buttermilk,
Wilmore and Fellsburg.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

If on or near Lake Coldwater, get away from the water and move
indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to
15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you
are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter
now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to

Storms will be moving out of Ford County into Comanche County in about an hour. Extremely high wind gust and heavy rains accompanied with lightning have been reported with this storm.
Outdoor Items should be secured due to strong damaging winds.

Dodge City has recorded 80mph winds with this storm system currently in Ford County. It is moving in more of an Eastern direction. If it stays at that path, it appears that it will go to the North of Comanche County into Kiowa County. There are some storms that could impact us later on this evening as well that are building in the west. But it the strongest storms are to the north west of us now.

Strong to severe thunderstorms will continue to track eastward through portions of west central Kansas and southwest Kansas through mid-evening.

A storm core has started to build just south of Coldwater. Expect some light rains for now. Chances of storms building and having potential for 70+ mph winds will increase this afternoon into this evening.

We are monitoring the red area for thunderstorm initiation over the coming hours. Storms expected to develop around 4 PM before expanding and moving northeast. The primary threat is 80+ mph wind gusts; severe hail and a tornado or two remains possible.
