With hot temps continuing through weekend, time to remind everyone about summer pet safety! Animals can die of heatstroke within 15 minutes, and cracking the car windows doesn’t help. NEVER leave your pets in parked vehicles. http://weather.gov/safety/heat-children-pets
The heat wave continues. A few storms may develop this afternoon, generally north and west of Dayton. Any storm that does form will have the potential to produce strong to damaging wind gusts from a downburst.
Guess what folks... They heard someone liked the heat today so they have brought it back again for tomorrow... As always please make sure if you are going to be working outside please drink plenty of water and stay hydrated!
The heat index will lift to near 100 degrees on Tuesday.
Please make sure to have plenty of hydration(water) with you today if you will be outside doing anything. Keeping hydrated can help reduce the risk of heat related injuries.
The beginning of the week brings the first of many hot days. But there will also be a chance of thunderstorms. Storms will have the potential to produce downbursts, which are localized wind gusts, as well as some hail.
[3:55 PM] Warm and very humid conditions are expected on Monday, pushing the maximum heat index values close to 100 degrees during the afternoon into early evening. Also... we are expecting some isolated/scattered storms during the afternoon, with some gusty to isolated damaging winds possible with this activity. Storms will develop rather quickly once the cap breaks, so be sure to keep an eye on the sky!
An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for majority of our counties from Monday afternoon to Friday evening. Several days with heat indicies near or exceeding 100 degrees expected. Overnight lows will only drop into the 70s, providing little to no relief. Stay weather aware.
[6:15 PM] As we round the corner into next week, it's time to start planning for an extended stretch of hot conditions region-wide! Excessive heat will be possible at times through this week, especially midweek and beyond. Now is the time to prepare for prolonged heat! Be sure to check on neighbors throughout the upcoming week!
As we are anticipating an extended heat wave beginning Sunday into next week, it is a good reminder that heat is the #1 weather related killer in the nation. This bar graph details that fact.
With the upcoming hot weather it's also good to know the difference between Heat Exhaustion VS Heat Stroke. Remember even if you are unsure you can always call 911 and have us come and check them/yourself out. We would rather be called and not needed than not called and have something worse happen.
Looks like hot weather is about to be here starting Sunday. Please make sure if you are going to be outside working that you are drinking plenty of water and taking breaks frequently.
Several days of 90+ degree heat will begin Sunday. Here are some key messages about the upcoming heat next week.
You may or may not have seen a post in the Daily standard last week about a proposed Levy in support of Mercer County EMS. That levy is looking to be voted on on Nov 5th of this year. We are trying to raise awareness about this levy that is being put forward. Below is what the article said.
Mercer County EMS is looking to pass its first levy. Officials are considering a 0.75-mill traditional income tax levy, according to Mercer County Commissioner Dave Buschur.
Currently county EMS is largely self-funded, with 90% of its revenue coming from billing to Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance companies for runs. About 10% of the funding comes from a $2.50 per capita charge assessed in each township and municipality in the coverage area.
Buschur said the proposed levy would allow for Mercer EMS to pay volunteers and add a few full-time paramedics to provide support on squad runs. The paramedics would be dispatched to scenes via “chase vehicles”
“(The levy is) something that needs to happen to support the EMS in this county,” Buschur said.
Planning to do outdoor activities in the next week or two? Make sure you are prepared and have plenty of water with you. Looks like temperatures will be rising soon. Make sure to stay safe and hydrated!
Temperatures will be near or slightly below normal the next few days. Then, starting on Wednesday, a warm up to more summer like weather arrives and continues into the weekend.
