Cole Camp Ambulance District and Cole Camp Fire are excited to offer a Scouts Exploring Program for youth interested in careers in emergency services.

This program gives young men and women (ages ~6th grade through 20) the chance to gain real-world, hands-on experience in Fire & EMS.

👨‍🚒 Explorers Will:

• Learn leadership and teamwork skills
• Participate in hands-on training and real-world scenarios
• Network with EMS and Fire professionals
• Explore career paths in public safety
• Build experience for college, jobs, and scholarships

Currently, the ambulance district is funded primarily through property taxes, meaning the cost of providing EMS services falls largely on property owners.

The April 7 ballot measure proposes increasing a local sales tax and adding a use tax to help fund ambulance services. Under Missouri law, the district is required to reduce property taxes by 50% of the sales tax revenue collected each year. This means that as sales tax revenue increases, property taxes are automatically reduced.

This approach shifts part of the funding from primarily property taxes. l is not expected to create a large increase in total revenue. Current estimates suggest an overall increase of approximately 10–15%, primarily due to capturing revenue from purchases that are not currently contributing to ambulance funding.

The proposed change does not create a large increase in funding for the district. Instead, it shifts how the service is funded—from being paid primarily by property owners to being shared by everyone who makes purchases within the district, including visitors.

Important details:
• The sales tax is not applied to most groceries purchased at grocery stores or to residential utilities
• The use tax applies to items purchased outside the district (such as online orders) and shipped to an address within the district
• Only the sales tax portion is used to help reduce property taxes in accordance with Missouri law

Bottom line:
This approach helps spread the cost more fairly, reducing the reliance on property taxes while maintaining the level of service our community depends on.
