AEP and South Central continue to work. AEP hopes to restore power by late tonight to a significant number of customers. Damage to the Belmont County area was severe. We had units respond to 14 different emergency calls. That may actually be a single day record for us. Please continue to avoid lines that are down and allow crews to work.

⏰ Daylight Saving Time – Spring Forward!

This Sunday at 2:00 AM, remember to set your clocks forward one hour.

While you’re changing your clocks, the Colerain Volunteer Fire Company encourages everyone to take a moment to check or replace the batteries in your smoke detectors. Working smoke alarms are one of the simplest and most important ways to protect your home and family.

✅ Test your smoke detectors
✅ Replace batteries if needed
✅ Make sure alarms are installed on every level of your home and near sleeping areas

If you need working smoke detectors or assistance installing them, please feel free to contact the fire station Monday–Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM at (740) 738-0735, and we will be happy to assist you.

A few minutes of prevention can save lives.

The State of Ohio’s Spring Burn Ban is in effect March 1 through May 31, prohibiting open burning during daytime hours due to an increased risk of wildfires.

⏰ Burning is ONLY permitted between:
🟢 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
🔴 Burning is prohibited from 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM

This seasonal restriction is in place because dry vegetation, low humidity, and wind can cause fires to spread rapidly — putting lives, property, and firefighters at risk.

The Colerain Volunteer Fire Company appreciates your cooperation in helping prevent wildfires and keeping our community safe.

Today we took delivery of two Stryker Power Stair Chairs.

These stair chairs will be placed on both of our ambulances and represent an important upgrade for the safety of our members and the patients we serve.

The new power stair chairs help reduce the risk of back injuries to our personnel and provide a safer, more controlled way to assist patients from their homes — especially in situations where stretchers cannot be brought inside.

None of this would be possible without the continued support of the residents we proudly serve.

Engine 2262 responded as part of the Belmont County Tanker Task Force activation to a working fire in Bellaire. During the incident, Engine 2262 operated as a fill-site engine in West Wheeling, working alongside Martins Ferry Engine 28-3 and additional manpower from the Wolfhurst Fire Department. Together, they filled tankers to maintain a continuous water supply, supporting fire suppression efforts for units operating on the fireground.

As always...History repeats itself. Much like the major winter storms of 1996, 2006 and 2016, it is now a near certainty we will see significant snow. The time to prepare is NOW.
Unless this storm takes a drastic turn to the south, Belmont County will likely see 12 to 18 inches of snow Sunday. This will be accompanied by brutal cold. Low temperatures will be near zero from Saturday through Tuesday. Power outages will be lengthy in duration and travel will become difficult to impossible in some areas of the Upper Ohio Valley.
The time to prepare is NOW. If you need home medical supplies or oxygen, the time to stock up is today and tomorrow. This is the same for heating oil, propane or wood as well as food and water. Even more importantly, make sure your heating vents are clear and do not plug space heaters into power strips. Do not use portable generators indoors without ventilation. If you are burning wood, consider inspecting and cleaning the chimney today. If you feel you may need medical evaluation, you should call your doctor TODAY or seek evaluation NOW.
There is no downside to preparation. Should the storm miss us somehow or diminish, you'll be ready for the remainder of the winter. If it hits, you'll be ready for our apparently regularly scheduled 10 year storm. Have a great day everyone and stay warm!
