More than ever, maintaining the Coles Point Post office (and other community post offices) is important to keeping not only our ability to send/receive mail both conveniently and safely, but to maintaining our community identities intact. When you have a roadside mail box you run the risk of having others follow behind the rural mail carrier at a distance, rifle through your mail just placed there, remove important documents like bank statements and credit card statements which they then will try to use at your disadvantage. Stay safe and stay with your post office boxes secured with your very own lock and key.

Many do not realize that without local post offices, community identities are lost quickly and permanently. Here, in the Northern Neck of Virginia, communities existed from the mid 1650s at least. Post offices are the infrastructure which holds these identities in place today. Get your post office box (if you don't already have one) and do your part to keep your community identifiable. If you don't have a P. O. box, your "community" may be a three-way intersection miles from where you live. Do your part. Thanks in advance!

This is the earliest known photograph of the original Coles Point post office. It was located in the building which also housed G. W. Godman & Sons Mercantile, located at the end of what is today Old Post Office Lane (County route 687) in Coles Point. It shows the "mail buggy" making its Coles Point delivery, likely sometime in the mid1880s.

We hope you will continue to support the Coles Point Post Office!! Contact Congress to get President Biden's appointees to the Post Office Board approved. That's the shortest distance to get DeJoy out of his position. DeJoy, you will remember, is the person with severe conflict of interest (owns/operates competitor to the USPS), who was appointed head of USPS to "do it in" by ex-prez . Needs vote of the Board to remove. Help this move along. DeJoy, you will remember, not only removed sorting machines, but scrapped them in an effort to slow the mail. Understand what's going on. Help out! Getting a P. O. box is one way to make sure your roadside mailbox is not raided and your credit card bills and bank statements are not stolen. That happens.

They will have someone meet you there (we don't have a staff person during the hours the office is open currently). But yes, we can beat deJoy at deGame. Apparently there are "staffing issues" meaning they don't pay enough to have someone drive to the Post Office for a two-hour stint weekdays and a four-hour stint on Saturdays. So is a posting saying "call ahead of time to get a postal employee to meet you here." So by all means, call them. You don't want some other post office getting credit for postage sales and package shipping during the holidays (the amounts sold all count). Apparently we call the Kinsale Post Office to request that someone meet you at Coles Point Post Office. So here are the numbers at Kinsale. Call away! Remember to support the USPS this holiday season, and in particular, the Coles Point Post Office. Hopefully this time next year we will be de-Joyed and will have some professional competence heading up this valuable service again. Thanks in the meantime to all the USPS employees who have persisted and persevered.

Have heard from a neighbor that there's a new plan afoot to close the Coles Point Post Office on November 4. Will post more when I have the chance to verify and provide details. However, there is no notice posted at the post office itself. And none of the boxholders have been notified. Will post new info as soon as I have it.

Still waiting for definitive answer re reducing hours of the Coles Point Post Office. This post office has survived worse than this.

In spite of repeated requests to continue the ‘MEETING’ on Nov.27 re reduction of hours or worse, USPS issued letter posted at post office that effective Jan 2019 hours will be cut to two hours a day. This was posted Dec 7. Same day Congressman Wittman’s office was notified of this stark and abrupt “decision.” Have requested that decision be rescinded and our request for continuance of meeting until response can be prepared and presented be acted upon. Do not give up and stay tuned.
