As we approach a very fun, competitive and exciting time in our city, the Colfax Police Department would like to share a few tips to ensure a fun and memorable Fair
Secure your valuables. Keep purses, wallets, phones, jewelry and other personal items with you and avoid leaving valuables unattended.
Be aware of your surroundings. Large crowds can be distracting. Report any suspicious activity immediately to law enforcement or fair staff.
Follow parking and traffic laws. Use designated parking areas and obey traffic signs and officers/fair staff directing traffic to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists. There will be an increased presence of traffic enforcement due to the surge of people.
Stay hydrated and prepare for the weather. Forecasted temps indicate high 80’s to low 90’s. Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and take breaks when needed.
Use caution around livestock and equipment. Follow all posted signs and instructions in animal and exhibition areas. Please do not disturb the animals.
Never drink and drive. If you plan to consume alcohol, arrange for a sober ride home. Designate a driver, use a rideshare service, or contact a friend or family member for transportation.
The Colfax Police Department and the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, Iowa will have an increased presence to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone attending the Jasper County Fair.
If you need assistance during the fair, contact a nearby law enforcement officer, fair official, or call 911 in an emergency.
Have Fun! And good luck next week to all the fair competitors!
