The 4th of July is this weekend. Colfax Police Department wants to remind every one of the fireworks code.

Please familiarize yourself with the laws if you plan on partaking in festivities.

Most of all, please be safe and considerate of your neighbors.

 Consumer Fireworks Code
A. No person under the age of 18 shall discharge a consumer firework without parental supervision.

B. Consumer fireworks shall not be discharged by persons showing visible signs of, or determined to be, intoxicated or under the influence of a drug or narcotic.

C. Any person discharging a consumer fireworks device assumes all responsibility for its operation and the consequences thereof. No person shall discharge a consumer fireworks device in a reckless manner or manner likely
to cause death, injury, fire, or property damage.

D. It is unlawful for any person to use or explode consumer fireworks at times other than on the following dates and times specified:

(1) Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on July 3 and
the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. July 4. (Ord. 736 – Jun. 25 Supp.)
(2) Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. on December 31 and 12:30
a.m. on the immediately following day.
(3) It is unlawful for any person to use consumer fireworks on real property other than that person’s real property or on the real property
of a person who has consented to the use of consumer fireworks on that property.

UPDATE!
Owner has been located and reunited with their dog. 

Please help me find my way home. I was found near Howard and Elm Street. I’m an older female with a pink collar. I’ll be hanging out with some nice police officer at Colfax City Hall for a couple of hours before I get taken to the ARL in Des Moines. To claim me please call Jasper County Dispatch 641-792-5912 and ask to speak to a Colfax officer.

UPDATE 03/27/26 11:00 PM this dog was taken to the ARL in Des Moines.

Help me!! I broke my chain and was found running loose on East Cherry Street. I’m an old male really wanting to get home to my family. A nice police officer has me at the department, but will take me to the ARL in Des Moines if not claimed by 8 pm tonight. We have rescheduled our Shop With a Cop! Thank you to everyone who has supported this program throughout the years.

Locked in!

The Colfax Shop with a Cop was postponed due to winter weather, but we are excited to report a new date has been secured for January 10th!
Christmas might arrive a little late for these deserving kiddos, but it will arrive!
We look forward to seeing everyone!

Thank you to all in our community who donate to our Shop with a Cop program. And a special Big thanks to Mr. Williams and his team at Gregg Young Auto in Newton for their generosity and support of our community. Unfortunately our Shop with a Cop was postponed this morning due to weather but we will put this to good use for our community in January when we reschedule the event.
