Sometimes the best parts of a concert weekend happen offstage. Our concert series brought in a band from out of the area to play for our community — a generous soul in Chicago Park stepped up, donating an overnight stay at their beautiful farmstead.

That kind of generosity is what keeps our concert series alive. Bringing touring musicians to Historic Colfax takes a village, and this donation made a real difference for a band who traveled a long way to play for you.

The depot wasn’t the only thing making history around here.

In April 1852, the Reelfoot Williams Gang held up a Nevada City stagecoach near what was then Illinoistown — present-day Colfax — and made off with roughly $7,000 in gold bullion.

It’s considered the first recorded stagecoach robbery in California’s Gold Country.

Turns out, Colfax had a few wild stories long before it had a name.
