**The project team will also be looking at the storm drain east of Iverson.
🏫 School starts September 1. Once school is in session, there will be no parking on Ash, Birch and Amble Streets during school drop-off and pick-up times, approximately 8:00–8:30 a.m. and 3:00–3:30 p.m.

🚧 HIGHWAY 40 / USH 12 CONSTRUCTION UPDATE – WEEK OF AUGUST 17 🚧

⚠️⚠️NOTE: HIGHWAY 170 UPDATES WILL COME TOWARD THE END OF EACH WEEK⚠️⚠️

There is a lot happening both inside the Village of Colfax and outside the Village limits over the next couple of weeks, so here is the latest update from the weekly construction meeting.

🏘️ INSIDE THE VILLAGE OF COLFAX

Crews will be busy throughout Colfax this week with several different operations happening at the same time.

• Manholes throughout Colfax are being adjusted this week.
• Crews will be raising iron/manholes Wednesday through Friday, with work possibly beginning Tuesday afternoon.
• Paving and patching work will continue through town, including work behind the sanitary sewer grinding operations.
• Temporary pavement markings will continue to be installed as work progresses.
• The railroad crossing replacement is expected to be completed this week. The signed STH 40 railroad detour remains scheduled through August 22.
• Shoulder and parking-lane closures will continue through Colfax as needed.
• Access to the school will continue to be maintained for summer school buses, with at least one of Birch/Ash Streets and one of Amble/Johnson-Olson kept available as needed.

Looking ahead to next week, August 24, crews currently expect to pave the final surface course north toward Colfax and pave through the Village Wednesday and Thursday.

🌲 OUTSIDE THE VILLAGE

Work continues throughout the larger USH 12/STH 40 project corridor between Princeton Drive in Elk Mound and CTH M intersection in Colfax.

• Monarch is completing binder pavement on the mainline and side roads this week.
• Surface paving is expected to begin on the south end Friday/Saturday and work north.

⚠️ PLEASE USE EXTRA CAUTION

There are multiple crews and operations happening at the same time throughout the project. Please slow down, watch for flaggers, follow temporary traffic control, and give workers plenty of room. The project team continues to coordinate work to keep both drivers and workers safe.

Thank you for your continued patience as this project moves forward!

🚧 PLEASE SLOW DOWN – CITY VIEW VILLA COURT 🚧

We have received concerns about vehicles traveling at high speeds through City View Villa Court Mobile Home Park, known locally as the trailer court.

Some of that traffic is likely from residents and visitors to the park, but the noticeable increase in fast-moving traffic is also likely from drivers using the park as a shortcut because of the nearby construction detour.

Please remember:

*The roads through City View Villa Court are private roads and are not intended for through traffic.
*The posted speed limit is 10 mph.
*There is a licensed daycare in the park, along with many other young children who live and play outside there.

If you do not need to be in the park, please do not use it as a shortcut. Follow the posted detour route instead. If you do live there or are visiting someone in the park, PLEASE slow down and follow the posted 10 mph speed limit.

Any accident resulting from this recklessness involving a child, resident, pedestrian, or another vehicle would be absolutely devastating. Saving a minute or two is simply not worth that risk.

💖🌟We also want to recognize and give a huge THANK YOU to the vast majority of residents, construction workers, truck drivers and visitors who are following the posted detour and posted speed limits. It is truly, genuinely appreciated. Your patience and cooperation make a big difference, and the example you set helps encourage other drivers to do the same. 💖🌟

Please follow the posted detour. Please follow the posted speeds. And most importantly, please help keep everyone in this neighborhood, and the entire community, safe.

Today we want to recognize and sincerely thank Sheila Riemer for 14 years of dedicated service to the Village of Colfax as the Deputy Clerk-Treasurer.

Over those 14 years, Sheila has worked alongside four administrators, countless Village Board members, and has had tens of thousands of interactions with residents. Fourteen years of public service represents far more than a number — it represents thousands of conversations, countless questions answered, problems solved, residents helped, elections worked, meetings prepared for, and moments when someone simply needed a familiar and friendly face at Village Hall.

Through all of the changes, busy days, difficult situations, and everything in between, one thing has remained constant — Sheila’s smile and her genuine love for this community.

She knows Colfax, she knows its people, and she cares deeply about both. So much of what happens behind the scenes in a Village office depends on experience, patience, kindness, and a willingness to help, and Sheila has brought all of those things to her work every single day.

Sheila, thank you for everything you have given to the Village of Colfax over the past 14 years. Your knowledge, dedication, kindness, sense of humor, and steady presence have made a difference to more people than you probably realize.

We are incredibly fortunate to have you, and we hope you know just how appreciated you are.

Happy 14 years, Sheila — and thank you for serving Colfax the way you do. ❤️
