The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office has learned of a scam that has been reported in Grant Parish.

Family members of a person that was arrested, were contacted by a someone identifying themselves as law enforcement. The caller instructs the family members to pay with gift cards or a digital transfer of money, in order to post the bond for the person that was arrested.

Law enforcement does not accept gift cards or the use of digital platforms for posting a bond.

Walter Burks, 44 years old, of Montgomery, was arrested for:

An investigation by the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of the superintendent of public works, for the town of Montgomery.

Willard Wesley Ferrier, Jr., 61 years old, of Montgomery, was arrested for Theft, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Movable and Malfeasance in Office.

Ferrier took items that belonged to the town of Montgomery, using the town’s vehicle and sold the items.

Jaxon Grindstaff was selected as the recipient of an academic scholarship from the Louisiana Sheriff’s Scholarship Program.

Jaxon is a graduate of Montgomery High School and plans to attend Northwestern State University, with the intention of becoming an engineer that specializes in nuclear energy.

Jaxon graduated with a 3.8 grade point average and scored a 27 on the ACT.
