MECHANIC
Summary:
The Mechanic works under the direction of the Superintendent. The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing parish vehicles and equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Keeps vehicles in proper working condition by completing preventative maintenance schedules and updating parts
· Repairs and replaces parts and assemblies such as power and drive trains, electrical systems, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brakes, steering, and hydraulics
· Overhauls, rebuilds, and replaces parts as necessary such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, bearing, carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, pumps, crank shafts, etc.
· Responsible for welding repairs and fabrication
· Ensures vehicles meet all state and federal requirements
· Cleans, washes, and paints vehicles as needed
· Maintains records of services and repairs
· Ensures proper operation of shop equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, calling for repairs, and performing preventative maintenance
· Maintains inventory levels by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipts
· Other duties as assigned

Employee has proven ability to learn and improve skills. Employee must be able to tolerate outdoor conditions and various types of weather.
Work Environment:
The primary duties of this position are performed in the shop. The shop environment may expose employee to air contaminants, confined workspace, temperature extremes, high places, noise, vibrations, or toxic materials. This position is not limited to the shop and also includes an office environment to complete necessary documents pertaining to the job.
Physical Demands:
As needed to perform the essential functions of the position. Which include but are not limited to:
· Ability to raise or lower objects from one level or another (includes pushing and pulling) (up to 100lbs)
· Ability to walk on uneven or rough natural terrain
· Ability to lift equipment to and from job sites;
· Ability to be trained to operate parish equipment.
· Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl as well as use of hands for various task.
· Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time
· Ability to read and write the English language
Education and Qualifications:
Position requires a High School Diploma or GED along with formal training and one (1) year of related experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
CDL License Class A is a plus but not mandatory
