Dear family and friends,

In loving memory of our father and husband, we cordially invite you to join us in the memorial services for Zavisa Janjic, on Tuesday, April 9th.

The mass will start at 10 am at St. Luke Serbian Orthodox Church at 10660 River Road in Potomac, MD. We will then proceed to Rock Creek Cemetery at 201 Allison St NW in Washington, DC, where we expect the funeral to begin around noon. Following the funeral, at around 2 pm, we will host a small reception in our condo building at 5000 Battery Ln in Bethesda, MD.

We would be grateful if you could attend any part of the farewell ceremonies.

In 2012, Zavisa started a foundation to provide monetary awards to top performing students at the School of Meteorology at the University of Belgrade. Instead of flowers, please consider donating to this fund.

Yours,
Gordana, Ksenija and Tijana Janjic

I am sorry to report that our esteemed friend and colleague, Zavisa Janjic, passed away over the weekend. Zavisa was one of the smartest and most driven people I have ever known. His contributions to numerical weather prediction were truly exceptional and his dedication was inspirational. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and the meteorological community. -- Jack Kain

Norman A. Phillips, one of the pioneers of modern day NWP, passed away at the age of 95 on Friday, March 15. Dr. Phillips is an alum of the University of Chicago, where he got his BS and PhD in meteorology, and is the creator of the popular Nested Grid Model (NGM).

He was a former chair of the Department of Meteorology at MIT and also served on the President's Science Advisory Committee and the Evaluation and Goals Committee at UCAR, among others, and he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. His work made him the recipient of multiple recognitions and awards, including the Franklin Institute's Benjamin Franklin Award in Earth Science, and the AMS's Carl-Gustaf Rossby Research Medal, the society's highest honor.

His obituary in its entirety is attached and will be publicly available in the New Hampshire's Telegraph and Union Leader soon.

The AMS has also announced a new travel fund for students in his name. Details of the fund and how to donate are in the attached bulletin.
