College Park Composite Squadron takes pride in its ex*****on of Civil Air Patrol's main missions of Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education and Emergency Services. Cadets Programs:

College Park has a long history of producing quality leaders through it's Cadet Program. While focusing on CAP's Core Values of Integrity, Volunteer Service, Excellence, and Respect, Cadets learn valuable leadership skills

that they can utilize throughout the rest of their lives. Upon completion of the Squadron's Great Start Weekend, cadets have the ability to participate in a number of training opportunities that include Encampment, National Cadet Special Activities, Color Guard, Honor Guard, Drill Team and a wide array of other activities. College park squadron prospective cadets are asked to give their contact information, this is where future cadets are introduced to Civil Air Patrol and complete the necessary administrative tasks required to become registered members of Civil Air Patrol. Once they are members of Civil Air Patrol they enter the Bravo Flight (Basic cadet flight). This is where the foundation of their cadet careers will be laid. Basic Cadets are taught the basic concepts and skills they need to be cadets. This includes Drill and Ceremonies, Uniform Wear, CAP History, Customs and Courtesies, etc. Cadets will enter Alpha flight and will be able to participate in a large number of activities, events and training opportunities. Emergency Services:

Cadets and Senior Members have the opportunity to receive training in a variety of Emergency Services capacities including Ground Team, Mission Aircrew, Mission Support Staff, etc. Our Ground Search and Rescue Team has participated in a number of high profile missions. Now, in conjunction with training opportunities received in and out of the Squadron, our Emergency Services Personnel are trained and ready to respond to various types of missions in support of local, state, and national emergency services efforts. Regular training takes place monthly at the squadron meeting and on weekends in order to maintain mission readiness and task proficiency. Aerospace Education:

Members are given the opportunity to receive training and learn about various aerospace topics/concepts. Opportunities available to members also include orientation flights, visits to the college park aviation museum, etc. Regular classes and activities are held each month during squadron meetings.

On 12/7/22 and 12/14/22 we held our monthly aerospace and fitness. During the aerospace meeting the cadets developed an understanding of lift and other aerodynamic concepts by creating small paper gliders. They then flew their gliders against each other aiming for maximum distance. The fitness meeting began with assessments of upper body strength flexibility and endurance, we then continued into a leadership lesson about extrinsic and intrinsic motivation.

We would like to congratulate C/Lt Col Estelle Roche, our former cadet commander, for earning her private pilot’s certificate on July 29th, 2022 in Columbus, Indiana. She was part of the 2022 Advanced Flight Training Academy, where 6 cadets nationwide were chosen to attend this academy. AFTA is the longest NCSA in CAP, lasting a month long. Cadets arrive having soloed and with a written test completed, with the hopes to earn their Private Pilot Airplane Certificate. This academy is funded by the cadet WINGS program.

Good morning everyone, I just wanted to give you all a heads up that one of our members, Captain Alex Kim, is in the hospital due to a blood clot that was found on his brain. It has since been removed, I have not received any status change or new information, but I will post once received. Please keep Capt. Kim and Lt. Col. Heidi Kim in your thoughts and prayers as they are going through this difficult time. A Caring Bridge account was set up, if you would like to show your love and support please click on the link below.

Cadets who applied for NCSAs before 15 Jan check your email address on file. You should have received an email stating if you have been offered a primary slot and another email stating which activities for which you remain an alternate. You also can check your activity status screen in eServices. IACE cadets will receive a notification letter shortly separate from the auto-notifications. You may add Activites to your application preferences now as well. “Late” designation no longer affects slotting for alternates. Congratulations to the 1300+ cadets who garnered slots!
Next week we will announce those activities which have openings AND a new glider academy will be opening in Oklahoma. Look for details NLT 6 March.

On Saturday, 22 May 2021, the Easton Composite Squadron hosted a Maryland Wing, Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX) at Easton Airport. Over 57 airmen participated including cadets and senior members from Glenn L. Martin Composite Squadron, Calvert Cadet Squadron, College Park Composite Squadron, Harford Composite Squadron, Colonel Mary S. Feik Composite Squadron, and St. Mary's Composite Squadron, converged in Easton for this exercise.

The site in Easton was one of three staging areas across the entire state where more than 130 members took part in this weekend's SAREX. The SAREX also included 27 airmen from multiple airfields across the state who flew 17 sorties totaling over 95+ flying hours. Training in Easton yielded over 780+ individual training requirements being signed off, along with over 70+ qualifications and 45 requalifications certified on various mission specialties including Ground Team Member (GTM), Mission Radio Operator (MRO), and Urban Direction Finding (UDF).

"Exercises like these are important for our Wing because it trains our personnel at both the operational level where planning and integration take place, and the tactical level where mission ex*****on occurs," states Lt Col Archie DeJesus, Squadron Commander for the Easton Composite Squadron. "It allows us to refine our processes and identify shortfalls to mitigate in future engagements. It also builds esprit-de-corps among our members who get to meet individuals outside their unit and strengthen relationships that can last for years. As a whole, the training increases our capabilities so our organization has a broad spectrum of choices on how to address a real-world crisis that falls within the scope of our Emergency Services mission."

to this time last year when 8 B-CC members joined others from across Maryland Wing as part of a Points of Distribution (POD) Team supporting Hurricane Florence disaster relief efforts in the area of Wilmington, NC.

Over the course of 5 days, they assisted in distributing over 2500 cases of water, tarps, and boxes food to members of the community hit hardest by the hurricane and subsequent flooding.
