Fulton County Schools recently launched its Strategic Plan 2017.
This is the school system’s roadmap for how Fulton County Schools aims to improve student achievement over the next five years. Three goals serve as the district’s measure for long-term student success, which is that students will graduate on time and be ready for college or the workforce.
• Graduation Rate – 90% of Fulton students will graduate on time
• College Readiness – 85% of Fulton’s seniors will be eligible for admission to a University System of Georgia college or university
• Career Readiness – 100% of Fulton's graduates will be work-ready certified
“These are big goals, but they are attainable,” said Superintendent Avossa. “Our strategic plan is focused on improving outcomes for all students, and the only way to do this is to set measurable goals and put supports in place to help our students and staff reach them.”
To that end, as part of its “Building Our Future” strategic planning initiative, the school system will focus on five key areas – instruction, people, technology, effective schools and resources – to drive improvement.
• Instruction – Students will be engaged in learning that enables them to reach their full potential for college and career readiness
• People – Fulton County Schools will attract and retain the most talented and effective employees in K-12 education
• Technology – Students, parents, teachers and administrators will have the tools and information they need to accelerate learning
• Effective Schools – School leadership will be collaborative and will balance innovation with accountability
• Resources – Student needs will be supported with efficient and effective allocation of staff, instructional materials and equipment
The strategic plan will guide the system’s direction over the next five years and is the result of many conversations with the school board, teachers and school leaders as well as engagement with parents and the community. The plan is posted at www.fultonschools.org/StrategicPlan2017.

SIZZLING SUMMER CONCERT SERIES (sponsored by the Union City Government)

featuring Keith Sweat

LOCATION: Union Station Mall Parking Lot
1000 Shannon Mall
Union City, Georgia 30291

Keith Sweat has stood the test of time. No other contemporary R&B singer has reigned with such consistency, delivering in searing, soul-drenching tones, an aural history of the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of the urban male. He holds a Sinatra-esque respect for both his fans and his material that keeps us 'coming' back for more, again and again. Hear favorites such as Make it Last Forever, I’ll Give All My Love to You, and Keep it Coming.

While the concert is complimentary, all visitors are asked to bring two canned goods. The items will be collected and donated to food pantries of local churches. Drop--off sites will be highly visible during the event.

Principal's Message
Teaching + Learning + Community + Collaboration = Success

As principal, my number one role is instructional leader, a close second is relationship builder and manager. We must have a professional “heart” connection with all we lead and support. Be it community to school, teacher to parent, teacher to student or principal to staff, all relationships will be permanently etched into the perceptions, hope, trust, and faith that all stakeholders have in the school. The collaborative spirit in learning symbolizes the catalyst that propels students into being motivated to learn, parents and community into partners, teachers into mentors, and schools into the hub for our communities.

Although we must solidify mastery of content, we must also engage and encourage students in a way that motivates and heightens their expectation of where and how they see themselves in the future. At Seaborn Lee ES our goal is to leave a lasting impression on those in which we lead and impact. I constantly remind teachers that we do not make widgets, but develop responsible and productive citizens who will pattern their lives after what they see us model. Rigor and Relevance is paramount to learning but without the relationship, true potential may not be realized. Positive relationships promote faith, hope, and trust in our schools.

Parents, as we look forward to this school year, a key message that we must retain is that learning is collective and collaborative. We need your support and look forward to working closely with you this year. Let me thank you in advance for all you do for the Seaborn Lee Elementary family.

A message from Fulton County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Avossa

As you and your children return to our schools, you may notice a few differences. Beginning this school year, Fulton County Schools has adopted a new organizational model for our schools called “Learning Communities.” There are four of them -- Northwest Learning Community, Northeast Learning Community, Central Learning Community, and South Learning Community.

Organized geographically, the learning communities allow a decentralized approach to school management and provide schools the opportunity to work more closely together and align resources. Each is managed by an area superintendent and supported by an executive director. While this sounds different, you won’t really see a change in your school’s day-to-day activities. The Learning Communities are how we organize our management structure to better support our schools.

Each learning community has a dedicated staff who will work to provide services and support to their schools. Seaborn Lee is part of the Southern Learning Community. Listed below are staff members and additional information for each learning community.

South Learning Community
Dr. Donald Fennoy, II, Area Superintendent
Dara Wilson, Area Executive Director
Adriane Kilgore, Professional Assistant
Elaine Bolton, Humanities Program Specialist
Creseda Moore, STEM Program Specialist
Julie Schneider, Behavior Specialist
Yolanda Williams, Special Education Program Specialist
Calandra Brown, Title I Lead Math Specialist
Jackie Burns, Title I Lead Math Specialist
Jennifer Warfel, Title I Lead English Language Arts Specialist
Tunisia Pullins, Title I Lead English Language Arts Specialist
Heavenly Montgomery, Title I Lead Data Support Specialist
Shawanna Arnold, Title I Lead Data Support Specialist

The South Learning Community consists of 27 schools with a 2012 enrollment of 23,042. The South Learning Community plans to provide world class customer service; raise student achievement through high expectations, teamwork, and accountability; and concentrate on implementation of Common Core. The South Community is excited about the new Banneker High School and welcomes new principals at Feldwood ES, McNair MS, and Langston Hughes HS.
