🏇 January 13, 1909: TR Rides 100 Miles to Lead by Example!

In a stunning display of endurance, Theodore Roosevelt rode 100 miles round trip from Washington, D.C., to Warrenton, VA, and back in just two days! The ride wasn’t just for show—TR believed military officers needed to be physically fit and ready for the demands of leadership. Inspired by Ulysses S. Grant’s directive for officers to prove their stamina, TR took matters into his own hands.

Details of the journey:
• Accompanied by Captain Archie Butt and others, TR started at dawn.
• The ride covered rugged terrain, icy roads, and freezing January weather.
• They reached Warrenton, rested overnight, and returned the next day.

At 50 years old, TR proved he could endure the same hardships he expected of others. It was a challenge to the military—and the nation—to embrace fitness and resilience.

Would you have joined him on this epic ride? 🐴💪

Happy Thanksgiving

🦃 Happy Thanksgiving! 🍂

Did you know Theodore Roosevelt loved celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends? As a family man, TR cherished this holiday as a time for gratitude and togetherness. The Roosevelts would gather at Sagamore Hill, their Long Island home, where they enjoyed a hearty meal, lively conversations, and the beauty of the outdoors.

TR also played a role in Thanksgiving history! In 1902, he declared it a national holiday for the last Thursday of November, carrying on a tradition set by Abraham Lincoln.

Whether it was with turkey, outdoor adventures, or family time, Roosevelt embraced the spirit of Thanksgiving—reflecting on gratitude, conservation, and the importance of family.

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with warmth, gratitude, and joy! 🦃🍁

🗓️ On This Day – November 2, 1886 🗳️

Theodore Roosevelt, running as a Republican candidate for Mayor of New York City, came in third in a hard-fought race. The Democratic candidate, Abram S. Hewitt, won the election, followed by Henry George, the Labor Party candidate, with Roosevelt trailing in third.

TR’s campaign was marked by a commitment to political reform and combating corruption, but he faced stiff competition from two opponents who represented more entrenched interests and emerging labor movements. Hewitt, a prominent industrialist and politician, captured the support of traditional Democratic voters, while Henry George, an economist and social reformer, energized the growing working-class movement with his calls for land reform and economic equality.

Roosevelt’s third-place finish, though disappointing, did not stop his political career. This election was one of the key moments where he developed his reputation as a reformer, fighting for honesty in government and standing against political machines. His loss ultimately pushed him to the national stage, shaping the path to his future as one of America’s most iconic presidents.
