FLEEING DUI ROLLOVER ACCIDENT RESULTS IN SIGNIFICANT PROPERTY DAMAGE

On 8/24/2026 at approximately 0617 hours, an officer with the College Place Police Department initiated a traffic stop in the area of South College Avenue and SE 12th Street, College Place, WA 99324. The vehicle, a white Hyundai Sonata was stopped for speed and lane travel in the roadway. While the officer contacted the driver of the vehicle, they smelt a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the driver and the vehicle. Upon asking the driver to turn off the vehicle, the driver decided to flee from the traffic stop at a high rate of speed, heading northbound on College Avenue.

A second officer, approaching the scene, observed the eluding vehicle and attempted to pursue the suspect. Due to the reckless rate of speed and pedestrian traffic at the time, it was decided for safety considerations to the public, to terminate the pursuit.

As the suspect continued northbound, fleeing from officers, they lost control negotiating the turn on North College Avenue and NE Rose Street. The vehicle had slid across the southbound lane on College Avenue, left the roadway, struck an electrical junction box (sending it flying into an unoccupied vehicle nearby), and then rolled over, coming to a rest on its roof at the railroad tracks on NE Rose Street.

Shortly after, officers located the vehicle where it had wrecked and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Yunior J. Solis from Walla Walla.

Solis was taken to the hospital, where he was medically cleared after sustaining minor injuries. Solis was booked into the Walla Walla County Jail for the following charges:
• Eluding a police vehicle
• Driving under the influence
• Reckless driving
• Obstructing a law enforcement officer
• 3 counts of malicious mischief 1st degree

Thank you to the Washington State Patrol and the Walla Walla County Sheriff’s Office who assisted in processing the scene.

Reminder to all, please do not drink and drive! Luckily, no one was injured in this incident, but the driver’s decision resulted in over $20,000 in damages.
