Our traditions mean so much to all of us. They remind us that Texas A&M is a family — one that stands together and takes care of one another, especially in the moments that matter most.

Tonight, we gather for the first Silver Taps of the semester to remember and honor eight Aggies who are no longer with us. I hope you’ll join me in Academic Plaza at 10:30 p.m. as we stand together to remember these Aggies.

We will honor eight Aggies who recently passed away at Silver Taps this evening.

Join the Aggie Family for the solemn ceremony in Academic Plaza at 10:30 p.m.

Today, The Texas A&M University System voted unanimously to approve the appointment of Dr. Jerry R. Strawser, Professor and KPMG Chair in the James Benjamin Department of Accounting at Mays Business School, as Texas A&M University’s Interim Provost and Executive Vice President (EVP) beginning Tuesday, Sept. 1.

For 25 years, Dr. Strawser has offered his expertise and leadership in support of our university community as a faculty member, an academic dean and as a university-level administrator. I’m confident that he will continue to support our research, teaching and service mission and provide trusted guidance and leadership as he begins his interim appointment next week.

Aggies are known for seeing a need and filling it. This could not be more true of our Aggie Moms, who hold a special place in our history and the continued success of our students.

Thank you to the Federation of Texas A&M Mothers’ Clubs for taking the time to visit campus and share more about the incredible work you are doing to support all Aggies. Gig ’em!

It’s the first day of the fall semester, and I could not be more excited. I was out and about on our main campus earlier today, and the enthusiasm and smiles were contagious. You can feel the happiness and hope for all the wonderful things to come. I even got to treat a few students to ice cream at the Moore Family Creamery in Aggie Park and take a first day of school picture on West Campus with my very own Aggie, my oldest son.

Here’s to a wonderful fall semester that holds so many wonderful things in store for Texas A&M University. Gig ’em!

Aggie Park is such a beautiful space on our campus and what fun we had welcoming students to the President’s Picnic as part of Howdy! Week yesterday.

Thank you to our Student Body President and Vice President for the introduction and our Yell Leaders for leading all of us in Yell Practice as we get ready for Aggie Football in just a couple of weeks. It was a wonderful way to spend our last Friday night before we kick off the fall semester and look forward to the first day of classes.

Earlier this morning, I had the pleasure of joining our wonderful move-in staff at one of the Howdy Host stands on Southside, and the joy was contagious. There’s nothing quite like the buzz of activity as we start preparing for a new semester. To our new and returning students — and the loved ones helping you settle in — welcome to Aggieland! I am so happy you are here and cannot wait for the first day of classes. Gig ’em!

2026 marks an extraordinary moment for Texas A&M University and for our nation as we celebrate 150 years of Aggie history alongside America’s 250th anniversary.

The new university commercial reflects the traditions, values and sense of service that have defined Texas A&M for generations and the belief that, together, Aggies are a force for good.

I encourage you to learn more about the commercial and to watch it here: https://tx.ag/2026BrandAnthem

Last August, Texas A&M University became the first university location to offer Buc-ee’s snacks and merchandise outside of its travel centers. And just shy of a year later, it was especially meaningful to celebrate another milestone with my friend Arch “Beaver” Aplin III ’80 and the Buc-ee’s team — the launch of a co-branded t-shirt that represents a partnership focused on creating opportunities for Aggies today and for generations to come.

In true Aggie fashion, it sold out on campus that same day. You’re in luck though, it’s been restocked at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore at the Memorial Student Center just in time for the fall semester and student move-in. Gig ’em!

We’ve had so many wonderful things happening over the summer that it’s somewhat hard to believe it is already coming to a close. Less than a week ago, I was speaking at my first commencement and commissioning ceremony, and soon, we will be welcoming our new and returning students back to our campuses for a very special fall semester where we formally kick off the 150th celebration.

From celebrating the grand opening of our new Law and Education Building at Texas A&M-Fort Worth to the christening of our new training vessel for the Texas A&M Maritime Academy, I’m looking forward to keeping this positive momentum going. I invite you to learn more about what these opportunities mean to our university community and more in my August update: https://tx.ag/August2026.
