To my geology/Earth science friends. This light blue topaz is the largest topaz ever found in North America. It was found in 1904 in Mason County, TX, and weighs almost 3 pounds (6480 carats). It was sold to the Smithsonian for $75 and was displayed there until 1996, when it was loaned to the Mason County Museum. You can see it there, on the square in Mason!

FYI:
It has been two years since we have been able to do a face-to-face GCamp in the field. We are excited as we will be doing face-to-face GCamp this summer.

Although we had selected our 30 teachers two years ago, things change and peoples’ plans and availability change. So, I am excited to say we have a few vacancies that have become available for GCamp 2022.

GCamp 2022 will run from June 30th to July 14th.

The description and application can be found at

https://geogeo.tamu.edu/academics/camps-outreach/gcamp.html

If you would like to attend or know of a teacher who would benefit from this opportunity, apply now.

G-Camp is a field camp for 5th - 12th grade science teachers that provides first-hand experience with the principles of geology in the field, helps you develop new curriculum and virtual fieldtrips for your classroom, and makes learning fun and exciting out-of-doors.
