A lot has changed in the time between the taking of these two photos, but one thing that has remained is my passion for this industry. Some of my first memories were made in the cattle barn and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I believe my love for the livestock industry and those that make it possible comes directly from my family, because that was how I was raised. The experiences I had on our family Brahman ranch taught me the importance of integrity and doing things the right way, in livestock production and in life. As I grew up, my agricultural interests expanded even further to include leadership, ag mechanics, various judging contests and much, much more. Growing up in this industry pushed me to attend the greatest university in the world for agriculture and I am so glad to be here with all of you! Thanks and gig ‘em!

As a kid, I would watch some family friends (and fellow Ags) show their registered simbrah cattle at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock. It wasn’t until junior high that I began raising and showing livestock myself. I knew I wanted to continue showing livestock throughout high school, so I joined the FFA. By doing so, my perception and interest in agriculture increased DRASTICALLY. My livestock project portfolio diversified from rabbits and goats, to adding cattle and Ag mechanics, I began to compete in several FFA contest, and I found myself wanting to advocate more and more for agriculture. This is how I chose to attend to Texas A&M University, and major In Agricultural Leadership and Development.

Thanks & Gig ‘em!

Agriculture is something I’ve always known. It was not uncommon to take a ride with my dad in his truck to go feed cattle or take a bumpy nap in the passenger seat of his fertilizer truck. However, it wasn’t until I started showing cattle and joined the FFA, and started my own agriculture story, did it go from something I knew to something I loved. Showing cattle I grew a passion for production agriculture and the difference we can make in feeding our world. Joining the FFA taught me how complex our industry is and the importance of good agriculture leaders in our society. These experiences during my life have shaped my passion for telling the story of agriculture, which is why I decided to major in Agriculture Communications and Journalism at Texas A&M University.

Growing up on a family farm, it is almost impossible for me to pin down that ONE moment where I was introduced to agriculture because it's all I've ever known. Every summer has been spent riding shotgun with my dad all over Willacy County tagging modules, turning in grain tickets, hauling grain to the elevator, and all those little day-to-day tasks. Watching my dad face (and solve!!) problems on the farm is what inspired me to study Plant and Soil Science so that I can play my part in helping our industry solve the challenge of feeding our increasing world population.
