My name is Michael Murtha and I am a Political Science and Psychology double major from Allen, Texas, but most importantly I am the loudest and proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2016! I am so excited and honored to be a candidate for Student Body President and I look forward to representing you as we work together to unite Texas A&M. This decision to run was a long process that
began my sophomore year at Texas A&M and resulted in months of prayer, consulting, and ultimately determining that this is the best way I can serve the Lord and Texas A&M University. My time at Texas A&M has been better than anything I could have imagined. My involvement in numerous organizations has given me experience in leadership and has allowed me the opportunity to serve Texas A&M in so many ways. From my service as the Vice President of the Class of 2016, to representing the student body as a Student Senator, and being involved in many other organizations such as being a member of Old Army Gentlemen’s Society and a counselor at Fish Camp, serving as a Muster host, attending the Spencer Leadership Conference, and attending St. Mary’s, I have truly learned just how strong and diverse the Aggie family is. So when asked why I want to run for Student Body President, the answer is easy- I want to give everything I have to the university that has given me so much and leave it an even better place, all while glorifying and serving the Lord. Life is about taking each second you are given and using it to your utmost potential, and that is exactly what I want to do. It is steeped in tradition, excellence, and “A spirit that can ne’er be told”. But at the same time, Texas A&M, like any other area of life, can be improved. That is why I am running for Student Body President. With this time that I have been given, I want to make Texas A&M the best possible university that I know it can be by uniting the student body. It is time for our 1,032 organizations to unite across campus. It is time for every student to have a voice and to know that their opinion matters. I ask for you to unite with me so that we can all unite with each other.
