Do you know a veteran, active-duty service member, Reservist, or National Guard member who deserves to be recognized? Help us honor the men and women who have served our country during the Collierville Independence Day Celebration on July 2. More details below. ⬇

Starting Monday, June 15, the Johnson Park boardwalk will close for a major rebuild.

Because this well-loved trail sits deep in a wetland area, crews must use the dry summer months to work safely on the infrastructure. The entire boardwalk will remain closed for safety through our estimated completion deadline of October 3.

But we aren't letting the summer heat stop our mileage!

As part of our Collierville in Motion campaign, we want to help everyone find safe, shaded alternatives to walk, run, and cycle. We know the Greenbelt has great canopies, and spots like Oakmont Park and the Wagon Trail are excellent options, but we want to hear from you.

Where is your go-to shaded path or neighborhood Greenbelt entry point to beat the heat?

It's is a great opportunity for families, nature lovers, and curious minds of all ages to connect with the outdoors and experience one of summer’s most enchanting sights.

Beginning June 15, 2026, the entire Johnson Park boardwalk will close to the public for the summer season to undergo structural repairs and renovations.

The project contract specifies a 110-day timeline, making the anticipated completion date October 3, 2026. Crews will replace the original 1,000-foot section of the boardwalk, built back in 2000, stretching from the Nature Center to the gazebo. While the newer section is still in good shape, we have to close the entire boardwalk to keep everyone safe while heavy equipment is moving.

Why are doing this during a busy, boardwalk season? This trail sits in a wetland, and we have to do the work during the drier summer months when the ground is solid enough for construction crews.

Our Public Works Director, Josh Russell, wants trail users to know we are doing everything we can to speed up the process: "We are hopeful that it won't take that long. We're working to get the message out now so everyone who enjoys this trail will have plenty of notice."

Thank you for your patience while we give this well-loved trail a much-needed upgrade! We will provide project updates as needed.
