Day 5 of the Explorer Academy was another great day of learning and hands-on experiences!

Today, Explorer Post 0955 had the opportunity to visit the Memphis Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), where we got an inside look at the cutting-edge technology, intelligence systems, and drone program that help officers keep the community safe.

From there, we visited the Mounted Patrol Unit and learned about the unique role horses play in modern policing. We then headed to the Aviation Unit, where Explorers got an up-close look at the aircraft and the important missions they support throughout the region.

We wrapped up an outstanding day with lunch at Huey’s and plenty of great conversations about everything we learned.

A special thank you to the men and women of the Memphis Police Department for taking the time to share their knowledge, experience, and passion for law enforcement with our Explorers. The future of policing is bright!

What a day at the Collierville Police Explorer Academy!

Day 4 was packed with hands-on training and life-saving skills as our Explorers earned their CPR certifications and learned the fundamentals of building searches and active shooter response. From medical emergencies to tactical scenarios, today’s training challenged our Explorers to think critically, communicate effectively, and work as a team.

A special thank you to Kevin Hunt from the Collierville Fire Department and Officer Bullock from the Collierville Police Department SWAT team for sharing their knowledge and experience with the next generation of public safety professionals.

Our Explorers continue to impress us with their enthusiasm, professionalism, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones.

Day 3 of Explorer Academy was another great success!

Today, our Explorers received presentations and demonstrations from the CPD Motors Unit with Officer McCoy and Officer Davis, gaining valuable insight into crash investigations, traffic enforcement, and motorcycle operations.

Officer Stewart led instruction on traffic stops, where Explorers learned the fundamentals of conducting unknown-risk traffic stops, practiced interview and communication techniques, and worked to strengthen their command presence. Despite the extreme heat, the Explorers stayed engaged, worked hard, and showed tremendous enthusiasm throughout the day.

We’re proud of their dedication and grateful to our officers who continue investing their time and expertise into the next generation of law enforcement professionals.

What a fantastic day at the Explorer Academy!

Day 2 provided our Explorers with an incredible opportunity to learn from professionals across multiple disciplines of public service. We were honored to host presentations from the FBI, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Military Police with the Tennessee National Guard.

In addition, our Explorers had the privilege of hearing from a special guest who shared her unique journey as a female aviator in the United States Navy and discussed her current work as a historian. Her story was an inspiring reminder of the many paths that service and leadership can take.

Experiences like these help broaden our Explorers’ understanding of career opportunities while reinforcing the values of service, integrity, and commitment.

We extend our sincere gratitude to all of our community, military, and federal partners who dedicated their time and expertise to invest in the next generation of leaders. Your support is invaluable, and we appreciate your continued partnership.

Good evening! Today was Day 1 of the Explorer Academy. Last night at Post 0955: Officer Safety and Weapons Retention. Explorers got to learn about equipment selection and setup, and how to defend against attacks. Explorers got to test Officer Stewart’s equipment, and watch videos of officers whose gear failed.

We had 4 guests attend, and issued uniforms to 2 new Explorers.

Last night Explorer Blair was the guest speaker at the annual Scout Award dinner hosted by the Chickasaw Council. She got to meet Sheriff Bonner, BPD Chief Cox, and gave a speech about her time in the Explorer program. Sheriff Bonner was honored with an award recognizing his involvement with scouting going back to his time as a Cub Scout.

This week we covered Large Scale Incidents, such as natural and man made disasters, acts of terror, and community events. The Explorers learned about the National Incident Management System, Incident Command Structure, and leadership obstacles in emergency management.
