STORM UPDATE

Here is an update on some of the issues from last night’s storms:

Shelby Drive, from Reynolds Road to Planters Trace Lane, remains blocked due to a tree down on power lines.

Fleming Drive, south of Shelby Drive, is also blocked due to trees down.

Collierville - Arlington, between Poplar and Fletcher is also closed due to trees on power lines.

Peterson Lake at Cottonwood is also closed.

Town crews are working to clear the trees and get these roads reopened.

🚦Most traffic signals are back up and operational. As a reminder, if you come to an intersection where the traffic signal is completely out, treat the intersection as a 4-way stop.

CPD has also spoken with MLGW. They are working to restore power as quickly as possible and have called in additional crews to help.

If your power is out, please report the outage directly to MLGW at 901-544-6500 rather than calling CPD Dispatch.

If there is an emergency involving a downed power line or another immediate hazard, you may call CPD Dispatch at (901) 853-3207 or 911.

Please use caution this morning and give crews plenty of room to work.

Statement-

Fire Chief John Selberg has chosen to retire from his position effective immediately. I wish him well in this next chapter. This conclusion was reached between the Town's attorneys, Town administrator, Chief Selberg, and other people that may have been involved. The Town of Collierville has made a statement showing its appreciation.

The board was not in a position to direct the staff on how to handle the specifics of this process. I was made aware of the retirement once all terms were reached and agreed upon between those involved in the discussion. The terms of the agreement were at the sole discretion of those involved in the process, I was not a part of that discussion or decision.

To be clear- this is not a direct criticism of the staff or attorneys. I am not stating that a good or bad decision was reached. It is a statement of clarity for all that have been following along and are interested in understanding the process.

My lack of involvement in the discussion of terms and outcome is because that is the system I was elected into.

Here is a basic outline of my responsibilities as they have been given to me: The BMA is responsible for the hiring/firing of department heads and directors. The day to day operations and other personnel matters are the province of the Town Administrator, which works for the BMA.

What does that mean? It means that the BMA appointed a person that is entrusted with caring for the town and its well being. We may offer opinions, approve agenda items as needed, etc. BUT we cannot dictate the daily actions or how to handle an employee. That is the responsibility of the Town Administrator.

I appreciate everyone's patience throughout the past weeks and encourage everyone to ask questions, seek results, and engage with your elected officials daily so that we can represent each of you to the best of our ability. I knew you were all there throughout this entire process and it was tough to remain quiet. We didn't really have a choice but today is a new day.

I will fight every day to uphold the values that define Collierville. Even on the toughest days, I will always fight.

Statement regarding E-Bikes:
Nick Robbins, Alderman- Town of Collierville, TN

I truly want to hear from people on this issue—whether they support additional regulations, oppose them, or have ideas we haven’t considered.

Safety for everyone is my goal.

We’re working closely with the Collierville Police Department to better understand the public safety concerns, but I also know our residents are the ones living with and using these devices every day.

My goal isn’t to rush to a conclusion—it’s to make sure we get this as close to right as possible. I believe there will likely be some form of regulation, but the details are still very much open for discussion.

I’m especially interested in hearing thoughts on:
• Helmets and other safety measures
• Age requirements, speed limits, classes of e-bikes, and where they should operate
• Locations that should be encouraged or avoided
• How e-bikes can safely interact with walkers, runners, bicyclists, and vehicles
• Any other ideas or concerns

Every email helps me better understand the different perspectives before any decisions are finalized.

We still have a public work session on August 10 to discuss this in greater detail, followed by a public hearing and final reading appx two weeks later.
