Police And Children Together - PACT Collinsville

Police And Children Together - PACT Collinsville Area Police Officers work with school aged children from ages 9 -12 during a week long day camp in mid to late June that focuses on team building, etc.

Police Officers (Mostly School Resource Officers and/or D.A.R.E. Officers) from several area Police Departments, including Collinsville, Edwardsville. Fairview Heights, Glen Carbon and Cahokia, work with school children aged 9-12 to build rapport with at risk or underserved children in their respective school districts. Officers select children based on their availability to interact with them thr

ough their everyday duties at the school and usually take 2-3 kids to a week long day camp in mid summer. The camp is completely free to the kids and their families and Officers solicit donations to provide funding for the camp. Each day of camp, the child is picked up by the Officer in a marked squad car and they are transported to and from camp. Breakfast and lunch are provided as well as whatever daily activity is scheduled. Some of the past year's camp activities include St. Louis City Museum, the Zoo, a tour of Busch Stadium, Edison's in Edwardsville, The Science Center and demonstrations of K-9 units. Officers stay in contact with the kids by sending birthday cards with McDonalds money it in on the child's birthday and this year, we were able to host a Christmas party, where children were given a $100.00 gift card to shop for themselves and their family members (which they were encouraged to do). Many kids spent very little on themselves and chose instead to bless their parents and siblings.

Congratulations to our last batch of winners in the PACT raffle. We're almost done with this fund raiser, but we will be posting a new way to help support the camp soon.

As PACT camp 2026 comes to a close, we reflect on a week filled with exceptional fun, laughter, collaborative teamwork, and memorable friendships. The privilege of spending five days with these children, watching them grow and thrive, is truly special. Witnessing the kids step out of their comfort zones to try new activities is a highlight of the camp experience. While camp may be over, the kids will have one more opportunity to come together for a special Christmas surprise at the Shop with a Cop event in December.

Today we started off with our morning breakfast at the Maryville Community Center. Thank you to all of our volunteer helpers that served the kiddos breakfast with a smile. We also want to thank Officer Frank SLeffler for providing Casey's breakfast pizza every day this week.

After breakfast, we all met at Collinsville Highschool for a pretty intense nerf war. The teams were set and everyone worked together playing capture the flag. The course was pretty epic, the soundtrack was rocking, and the darts were flying all morning.

Next we ventured off to The REC in Fairview Heights for rock climbing and swimming. There were a few kids, and adults, that conquered their fear of heights. The walls had numerous options to test out one's abilities.

The pool water was perfect, the water slide was zipping kids along, and the lazy river was a nice relaxing way to spend the afternoon.

Chick-fil-A Edwardsville, 2319 Troy Rd, Edwardsville, IL 62025 was our lunch with campers getting nuggies or a sandwich and a cookie.

The kids all played in the pool until our time at The Rec came to an end. The campers all said their goodbyes to their new friends before leaving for home one last time šŸ˜¢.

We will start working on plans for next year's camp very soon and encourage everyone to watch our Facebook feed for announcements on opportunities to assist with fund raisers and donations. This camp would not be possible without the generosity of so many in the metro east. Thank you to all that followed our daily adventures! This was definitely a successful camp from start to finish.

Day 4 has was a really good one. We started off with the Maryville Community Center breakfast, then a quick drive to Grant's Farm. We did the tram ride through the park to the baby goats for a feeding. We then did the animal show and toured the remaining exhibits, finishing up with lunch in the Biergarten.

Next was Slick City Action Park. The campers got some major height and speed on a variety of slides and got in a little basketball.

Tomorrow will be the final day of camp and we have a few surprises in store for everyone.
